This was disclosed by President Donald Ramotar during a brief encounter with the media on Friday. “He is invited in his own right as a person and of course he’s going to be representing Guyana too, I don’t see why not, but he is invited in his own right as a person who has been recognised as having done a lot of work on this issue, probably more than most people,” Ramotar said. The president added that he was invited too but could not attend the February 2-4 event. Ramotar succeeded Jagdeo following the November 28 polls. The latter had served in the position for 12 years. Contacted by Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) Jagdeo acknowledged that it was his first overseas engagement on Guyana’s behalf but deferred any statement on the event until his return when he said he would provide a full briefing. Ramotar has said in the past that he will be calling on his predecessor to utilise his experience and has dubbed him a valuable national asset. Jagdeo for his part has said that Guyana will always have first call on his time. “This country always has first call on my energies, my intellect, my experience, all that I have learnt because this is home for me. The people who live here are my people; anything I can do to advance our wellbeing as a country, that’s priority for me,” he told reporters prior to the November 28 elections. He has been credited with initiating the government’s Low Carbon Development Strategy upon which Guyana’s development is hinged to sustainable exploitation of its resources. Some of the themes to be covered at DSDS 2012 are biodiversity; forests and wildlife; oceans and coastal areas; water; the role of science and technology; global agreements and governance; poverty; and food security. Invitees include heads of state, ministers, business executives and representatives from multilateral agencies. |

Congratulations Mr Jagdeo, have a nice trip in representing OUR Country, Guyana.
The Opposition need to move itself into over drive to table bills to protect the people's money. This is another slap in the Opposition's face.
Jacdeo i Governing Guyana from behind. Look Granger and Khemraj get real and step up the pace in People's House.
This action by President Ramotar is going to be seen throughout the entire world, that we are indeed unique and different than most civilized nations; that we can use the experiences, intellect and dedication of our ex-president for the benefit of all.
President Jagdeo International Status as a world leader who dedicated his entire tenure for eco-sense, de-forestation, peace and non-violence; a world free of poverty, illiteracy and dependencies and further the causes of globalization with emphasis of the under-developed world as the main concern, is today widely accepted and appreciated.
This dedication has given the world order the obligatory to personally invite our ex-president. We should note also that once a president becomes an ex, generally, they do not want to help in the future developments and policies. We are forever grateful that President Jagdeo is willing to help in a non-official position.
I don't know where you live but you need to go do some home work on Guyanese.
Guyana and Guyanese are insulted with the PPPC's Leadership. Its the worst Guyanese have ever seen. The people who continue to talk this PPP talk should leave America, England and Canada and go home.
Jagdeo need to go clean up himself and Ramotar need to free the people they held captive to the PPP like the Sugar Estate did to the Indenture Servants coming from India.
YOU ARE LIKE A MONKEY ON WE GUYANESE BACK.
MORE THAN 1/2 OF US DID NOT WANT WHAT YOU SELLING.
STOP IMPOSING ON US PLEASE.
TIME TO REST.
But, it is inconceivable that we do not have other environmental and sustainable development personnel who are qualified to represent the GUYANA at this forum!
So, Jagdeo goes as an individual, but gets to save his dollars since, as the nation's representative, the state will pay his travel, per diem, and all associated expenses.
If he decides to have Dom and caviar, then GT taxpayers will have to foot the darned bill!
Why is Ramotar not demonstrating that he is his own MAN?
This is simply another issue which serves to illustrate that Jagdeo is indeed the power behind the scenes and Ramotar is simply following instructions as he always did at Freedom House!
UNADULTERATED BS!!
But Criticism should be Construcvtive and not bias Drivel.Whether persons like it or not He is the Best Man for the Job.
