muggedTwo men were Tuesday arrested shortly after robbing an Accounts Clerk of jewellery and cash while she was walking along the LBI Access Road, East Coast Demerara.

Police spokesman, Ivelaw Whittaker said 49-year old Sarsawattie Singh of Foulis, Enmore, East Coast Demerara was robbed about 11:30 AM.

“The two men threw Sarsawattie Singh to the ground and took away her jewellery valued at $210,000.00, and her hand-bag with $5,000.00 and escaped,” police said.

Mobile patrols, according to Whittaker, were alerted immediately after receiving the report and police intercepted a car some distance from the scene. The driver and two male occupants have been arrested and the stolen items recovered.

“The two men were searched and all the articles stolen from Sarsawattie Singh were found in their possession.  They have also been identified as the perpetrators by the victim,” said Whittaker.

The two suspects along with the driver, who all hail from Georgetown, are in police custody.  Charges will be laid shortly, police said.
