Thirty-three-year-old Marlon Welcome of lot 192 'A' Field, Sophia was murdered early Friday morning. Reports say the man was lashed to the back of the head by someone who entered his home through a window. Welcome was a mechanic. A neighbour (name withheld) said he heard a sound like someone being lashed twice around 1.55 AM and went outside to investigate. "Dis girl over here run outside and start hollerin so I run ova. She turn and holla that somebody do Marlon something and he deh lie down inside aint moving so I jump ova de fence and go in and I see he lie down with he town out he mouth," he recounted to reporters. The man said he checked Welcome's pulse and discovered that he was still alive and with the help of others transported him to the hospital. "When we hois' he up we aint see no blood but when I go from behind he and raise he up then I see de blood and I seh dis man bleedin leh we hurry up an carry dis man to de hospital and couple minutes after they call and they go de hospital and seh he dead," the man said. When asked if he knew of any problems Welcome had with anyone he related that around 7 PM Thursday the mechanic and another man had an argument over money and the latter left in anger. He added that he had never seen the individual before. A niece who lived with Welcome has since been taken into police custody for questioning. |
