Bartica Regatta racing champion, Conan Belle, Monday evening sustained serious injuries when the CBR motorbike he was riding slammed into a quantity of old iron in the gold mining township.

The 23-year old Belle, in an unconscious condition, was up to late Monday night being transported in a speedboat to Parika from where he would be transported by road to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. It is unclear whether a domestic plane could have been made available to air-dash him to the city.

Residents told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com ) that Belle failed to make the turn at the corner or First Street and Seventh Avenue, crashing into a pile of scrap iron on the shoulder of the road.

He was not wearing a helmet.

Belle, whose father owns Zen’s Hotel in Bartica, suffered head injuries and a broken hand and leg.
