Two Surinamese, allegedly nabbed in Guyana, with guns were Friday arraigned in an East Berbice court.

Police Chief of Criminal Investigations, Deputy Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud named the men as Dwayne Mc Intosh,27, and Sylvester Alphin,20, of Apoera.

When police arrested the two men in Orealla on Wednesday, they said they had come across the border to hunt, said Persaud.

The police officer said Guyanese police would be contacting their Surinamese counterparts to ascertain whether the men were licensed to carry the two 16 gauge shotguns.

They were refused bail and remanded to prison.

They more than likely entered the country illegally too but this should not be punished by jail time because hundreds, if not thousands of Guyanese go to surinam illegally everyday on the so call back-track, fishing boat method. Guyana Government need to make new laws to allow licensed firearm holders to be able to legally own a firearm in Guyana, like the conceled weapons license they have in America, which is issued only after an intensed FBI back ground search.
Why Guyana government takes so long to issue firearm license is questionable. Bribes is it?

Both the Guyana and Suriname Governments hve turned a blind eye to the Back-track crossings. The crossings have been used by Suriname's president and a host of Guyanese officials. This is one of the the ways that contribute to illegal trafficking of firearms. In other words the Governments of both Guyana and Suriname are involve. Can we get a comment from the honorable MINISTER of HOME affairs Clement Rohee.
