Two prisoners on Sunday escaped from the Mazaruni Prison during a Fun Day that was held on the jail’s playground, well-placed sources said.

A senior police official confirmed that prison authorities asked for help and a team has been dispatched to help locate the escapees.

The names of the escapees are not immediately known. They are believed to be in the Skull Point area.

Quite recently one prisoner, who was remanded for alleged possession of marijuana, scaled the Georgetown Prison's fence and escaped.

The Mazaruni Prison is a maximum security jail for dangerous and hardened convicts.
