Yog Mahadeo

In the wake of his resignation as Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), Yog Mahadeo on Friday quit as Chairman of the Private Sector Commission (PSC).

Mahadeo voluntarily resigned on June 29 one day after he was unanimously elected Chairman of the umbrella business organisation.

But eight days later he wrote the PSC’s Secretary, Anthony Astwood, resigning from the top business executive post.

His resignation also came around the same time that four senior accounting and finance officials of GT&T were fired because a detailed audit found that they had breached several internal controls such as processing payments without the required signatures.

Following is the content of the letter:

“It is with considerable regret that I have decided to submit my resignation as Chairman of the Private Sector Commission.

“At the time of my unanimous election to the Chairmanship of the PSC, I was, as is public knowledge, Chief Executive Officer of GT&T and would have been representing GT&T on the Commission as Chairman in that capacity. I can of course, no longer do so.

“I have already publicly stated thar my decision to resign from GT&T was purely voluntary, was not at the request of GT&T and was made as a matte of personal principle on my part. As the Commission is aware, I continue to be associated with GT&T, remain in good standing with the Company and continue to enjoy the support and respect of the management.

“Indeed, the Commission, through Mr. Peter De Groot as Chairman of the Corporate Group of the Commission, was written to by the Board of Directors of GT&T agreeing that I continue to represent the Company on the Commission and that the Board will continue to support my representation of the Company until further notice, not withstanding my resignation.

“I have, however, decided that after the most careful consideration of my resignation as CEO of GT&T, it is in the best interest of the Commission that I no longer serve the Commission as Chairman.

Please convey to the members of the Commission my appreciation and thanks for the confidence placed in me in electing me as their Chairman. Please be assured that I will continue to support the Commission and serve it in any way I canto the best of my ability.”

Its the only principled thing to do Yoj. Its the way professionals behave. I wish you God's speed.

Compare this with what is unfolding at NCN where the Program Manager who has admitted to gross malfeasance is still on the job. Only in Guyana.

I have to give it to Yog. You are standing up like a man - taking full responsibilty for what transpired under watch. We do hope the folks in Public Office are paying attention. If they are "Real Men" they will follow in your footsteps.

The PSC is a waste time commission any how. So Yog is doing himself a favor and not subscribing to any ethical conduct as they may want us to beilef. The man resinged as CEO of GTT and therfore cannot represent it on the PSC. Give the position to the same man from DIH. He was doing a good job for the Government. Remember thet Yog is a born PPP.

Yog Had to resign from GT&T as the board of directored asked him to do or face termination. So he resigned rather than having to face termination from the board. Yet he keeps saying that he "voluntarily" resigned... This guy was the CEO for one of the most profitable companies in Guyana and under his watch $500 Million went missing wake up people that almost 20% of ATN's profit. Am glad he resigned as Chairman from PSC as he was not the right person the run the commission.
