The Working Peoples Alliance (WPA) on Thursday- spearheading a protest by Red Thread and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU)-demanded that government goes to the negotiating table over the electricity rate hike in Linden. The demand was issued by WPA’s executive member, Professor David Hinds from the picket line of about 100 persons outside President Donald Ramotar’s office on Opposition Leader, David Granger said two days ago he has written the Guyanese leader, urging that he intervenes in the matter. Reiterating that “Our motto in the WPA is ‘not a damn cent more,” said Hinds as it relates to the rate hike from July 1. The WPA veteran recommended that Prime Minister Hinds, who is responsibility for the electricity sector, joins with the leaders of the Alliance For Change (AFC), A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Speaker of the National Assembly, Raphael Trotman go to “We think that is where the solution has to be. We are for negotiation. We are saying that the government must stop and negotiate,” he said. “That is deepening democracy and let the The opposition and Region 10 administration are demanding that a better investment climate be create to attract businesses and create employment. For its part, government has said that is being done already and points to progress in the wood and agriculture sectors. Since government announced earlier this year that it would be slashing the electricity sector, there have been protests and meetings in Red Thread's Karen De Souza told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) that her organisation decided to join the anti-rate-hike protest because women and children are being affected. |

Since the Government increase electric bill, the Regional Chairman must put the tariff up to cross the bridge until Government can respond to the call.
Have you ever went to Linden to see our Roads and our run down public infrastructure, it is a crying shame that for a community that add so much to our GDP every year we are treated so shabbily, while on the other hand Indian dominated community have proper roads, clean potable water, proper Community centers ect and when in comparison to Region 10 (of which linden is the largest and most productive community)they contribute little or nothing to the National Coffers.
I see this as a blessings in disguise,I would like to call on APNU for the Govt to disclose to the nation the individual contribution to the National coffers by every Region, when that is established, I would then like them to produce in evidence the individual yearly regional budgetary Financial allocation (which should include future planned infrastructure development), then equate that against the money received from each Region to the national coffers and then we can know who is being discriminated against .
I can assure you that linden would stand out like a sore thumb in this analysis, for in region 10 of which linden is the most important part of we are the gate way to the Interior, other than Bauxite, we have Gold and Timber with the latter being the major contributor to the destruction of our roads with their big logging trucks passing through our Community, but we do not get a single dollar from these lucrative trades.
So in the final analysis if we are being giving a subsidies electricity by this Govt, this is pale in comparison to what we contribute every year to the national coffers in fact I think that we should demand more, because the Sugar Industry is failing yet the Govt subsidies them every year with billions of dollars and their communities have the best roads and infrastructures . ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
Is there a regional office where you pay your property taxes?
Go back and complain to these people about your roads
It is high time that they bear their share of the lear!
