Attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes on Monday called for the opposition to bring a no confidence motion against Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee following the police killing of three Lindeners protesting an electricity tariff increase last week. Hughes, an executive member of the Alliance For Change, was speaking with reporters following a meeting at the Office of the President which also included Region 10 officials and an APNU representative. “My position on Mr. Rohee is that the combined opposition should before the end of the week move a motion of no confidence in the Minister of Home Affairs and that is my personal position. Before the end of this week the combined opposition should demonstrate to this nation that Mr. Rohee does not enjoy the confidence of the majority of this nation in discharging his functions as Home Affairs Minister,” Hughes stated. APNU executive Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine, who represented the coalition at the meeting, said that was something the APNU would have no difficulty with supporting. Efforts to contact AFC Chairman Khemraj Ramjattan on Hughes call were not immediately successful. Rohee stated on national television Sunday night that he had a “clear conscience” on the matter since he had given no order that led to the shooting and in response to calls for his resignation he echoed the words of President Donald Ramotar. The president on Friday at a news briefing dismissed a question on whether the minister should be removed. “My Minister of Home Affairs was not on the ground and he was not directing anything, I don’t agree with their calls,” Ramotar said. Both the APNU and AFC have called for Rohee’s resignation. The home ministry had issued a statement on Thursday, the day after the shooting, extricating itself from the fallout. According to the ministry, the events which took place at the McKenzie-Wismar Bridge were “strictly a police operation with no direct or indirect involvement of the Ministry of Home Affairs.” |

What was discussed?
did you remind them not to repeat of the mistakes made last December?.....or you advised them to stop the protesters at all costs.
or you just met them to wish them," best wishes?" ...... big nincompoop!!
In a protest demonstration, the police commissioner must assure his boss about the complete readiness of the police to conduct crowd control techniques according to humane and international standards. The use of live ammunition in the absence of live ammunition attacks, shows the police commissioner, the commander on the ground and the Home Affairs Minister all failed down the chain of command. Ramotar's failure is that he has been a failure since at GuySuCo and as head of the PPP!
Rohee is responsible for the Police Force and he is responsibility for safety and security of the people in this country. He is also ultimately responsible for managing the traffic situation and ensuring law and order on the roads of Guyana.
These are some of the craziness that Rohee is condoning:
Rise and sustenance of the mad minibus culture
Lack of road marking and signs on the roads
the "non-significance" of the pedestrian crossing
lack of proper warning signs, markings, reflectors at road/bridge construction sites
and many many more craziness that this chap condone...
Rohee just like Ramotar is a waste of time governing this country.
I am not hopeful for anything coming out of this, I cannot be. I have seen too many injustices in Guyana that nothing was ever done about, too many. It is a sad and unfortunate country, Guyana is.
My major concern is the lack of compassion by African people for their own. It is so easy for African police men to shoot without thought their own flesh and blood on behalf of an Indo Guyanese government. This shows me we r an enslaved people, mentally and physically.
Someone said they were being professional, why weren't they professional in dealing with the Tain uprising by East Indian protesters? How come afterwards the PPP chased all the policemen there plus dispatched senior government and PPP big wigs to the site?
U know why? Because East Indian people are compassionate on their own, they r not willing to gun down their kit and kin. That's what is lacking among African people. Change will never come to Guyana through democracy, it is too divided and too corrupt.

Would someone please help me out here, why the opposition in this country is so weak and their memory so short lived especially the APNU, just listen to the President 'my minister was not on the ground blah blah.....', when the APNU selected Granger as its candidate hol-lad if ya hear the loud crying how he got BLOOD on his hands and he this and he that, now we all know that Mr. Granger was not there when the Ballot box were stolen nor when the PPP supporter were killed, but for the PPP he was responsible, they even campaigned on this issue, wrote articles and had several discussions this matter and Granger was just another Senior Officer in the army at that time, but here we have ROHEE as the Minister of Home Affairs and in charge of the Police Force but yet still he is not responsible and of course BLOOD is not on his hands. Mr. President no disrespect but GIVE ME A FLIPPING BREAK.
Then Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Hemant Goswami, Martin Luther King Jr.,V. K. Krishna Menon, Ruby Bridges, don't mean a anything to you! I truly believe Clement Rohee has TEN times your I.Q.
ROHEE THE ONE TIME bouncer at Metropole Cinema SHOULD HAVE BEEN BOUNCED OUT A LONG TIME AGO.
THIS WAS A DELIBERATE ACT TO SCARE BLACK PEOPLE INTO SUBMISSION.
Stand you ground in the best interest of the people
