The Alliance For Change (AFC) on Friday disclosed that it has secured the services of a UK-based forensic expert who is willing to help with the ballistic testing of the metal fragments recovered from the bodies of the three dead Linden protesters. Executive member Nigel Hughes told Demerara Waves Online News that the expert, Dr. Mark Robinson, was willing to observe the ballistic tests spearheaded by the Guyana Police Force and conduct his own. He added that he has formally written acting Commissioner of Police Leroy Brumell seeking his permission for Dr. Robinson’s involvement and is awaiting his response. According to Hughes, the forensic expert is prepared to travel at short notice. When contacted by DemWaves on the AFC's offer Brumell in a brief response stated that "the person will have to apply to the Ministry of Home Affairs for a permit to work in Guyana." The AFC was instrumental in securing the services of Trinidadian pathologist Professor Hubert Daisley who witnessed the post mortem examinations on the bodies of the Lindeners Shemroy Bouyea, Allan Lewis and Ron Somerset. The autopsies were conducted by government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh. The results have shown that the men were all shot through the heart with “bronze-capped” lead bullets, Professor Daisley revealed afterwards. This directly contradicted the police contention that only tear gas and rubber pellets were used against the protesters. The trio was part of a group of residents who had blocked the Wismar-Mackenzie Bridge in protest of a government move to gradually bring electricity rates in the town on par with the rest of the country. Ten days later, the protest which was initially planned for five days, continues with Lindeners calling for the ranks to be charged with murder. The terms of reference for a Commission of Inquiry into the incident are currently being hammered out by the political parties. |
