(L-R) Tourism Minister Irfaan Ali, Miss Canada 2012 Jaclyn Miles and TAGG TV Producer Chris Bassoo
Miss Canada 2012 Jaclyn Miles is in Georgetown to lend her celebrity to the production of a 50-episode show which will present Guyana as a tourism destination worldwide. Miles along with acting Tourism Minister Irfaan Ali and producer of TAGG TV Chris Bassoo spoke to reporters on Saturday. Boodoo said TAGG TV, a Canadian entity, was designed to showcase an entire country to the world. “We will be showcasing Guyana in high definition in a reality-based format and mixing in the social media with that in order to gain viewership. We’re now taking everything that’s great about Guyana – you’ve got your Stabroek Market, waterways, your bird watching, Iwokrama – everything that there is in Georgetown and outside of Georgetown. We’re going to take all those attractions … and we’re mixing them all together into 50 episodes,” Bassoo said noting that businesses will also be highlighted. The show will be distributed via social media sites like Facebook. “There are 850 million people right now on Facebook, if we capture one percent, two percent, five percent of those people to showcase how great this country is in high definition we’re doing really well,” the Guyana-born Bassoo added. Miles noted that the Miss Canada organisation was personality-based and not a beauty pageant. “There’s no bikini, no talent; it’s actually a programme that was developed to help women empower themselves to get great career opportunities and connections with the communities so you can choose to focus on anything you like. I just recently finished schooling to be a teacher and so what I’ve been doing is creating educational programmes to educate about domestic violence and dating violence and I go to schools and educate our youth about how to prevent it in the future in order to make a difference,” Miles explained. She is expected to be involved in activities tackling domestic violence during her stay in Guyana. Bassoo said some CDN$250,000 is going into the production which starts next week and ends on September 4. The Guyana government will be providing logistical support for the production team. |
