(L-R) Tourism Minister Irfaan Ali, Miss Canada 2012 Jaclyn Miles and TAGG TV Producer Chris Bassoo

Miss Canada 2012 Jaclyn Miles is in Georgetown to lend her celebrity to the production of a 50-episode show which will present Guyana as a tourism destination worldwide.

Miles along with acting Tourism Minister Irfaan Ali and producer of TAGG TV Chris Bassoo spoke to reporters on Saturday. Boodoo said TAGG TV, a Canadian entity, was designed to showcase an entire country to the world.

“We will be showcasing Guyana in high definition in a reality-based format and mixing in the social media with that in order to gain viewership. We’re now taking everything that’s great about Guyana – you’ve got your Stabroek Market, waterways, your bird watching, Iwokrama – everything that there is in Georgetown and outside of Georgetown.

We’re going to take all those attractions … and we’re mixing them all together into 50 episodes,” Bassoo said noting that businesses will also be highlighted.

The show will be distributed via social media sites like Facebook.

“There are 850 million people right now on Facebook, if we capture one percent, two percent, five percent of those people to showcase how great this country is in high definition we’re doing really well,” the Guyana-born Bassoo added.

Miles noted that the Miss Canada organisation was personality-based and not a beauty pageant.

“There’s no bikini, no talent; it’s actually a programme that was developed to help women empower themselves to get great career opportunities and connections with the communities so you can choose to focus on anything you like.

I just recently finished schooling to be a teacher and so what I’ve been doing is creating educational programmes to educate about domestic violence and dating violence and I go to schools and educate our youth about how to prevent it in the future in order to make a difference,” Miles explained.

She is expected to be involved in activities tackling domestic violence during her stay in Guyana.

Bassoo said some CDN$250,000 is going into the production which starts next week and ends on September 4.  The Guyana government will be providing logistical support for the production team.

Hehehe....These people are really crazy, Showcase what???? all the garbage and lawlessness. That doesn't sell around the world, only in Guyana, so Choose someone with that same mentality there to showcase the best we have, lol.
Look at how this guy dress, he think he is going to eat seven curry at some Jhandi, lol. He is a comic.
God, help those people learn to be more Decent and respectable Citizens of their own country, so they don't have to bring foreign people to showcase their Garbage.

Too bad Chris Bassoo can't even run Taggtv is his own country without screwing over businesses and promising things he can't keep.

One would think that Ms Arti Cameron, Ms. Seeberan et. al. would be doing this? I don't understand how we ended up with a Canadian showcasing Guyana? Is she Guyanese born or something?

This is a scam and it is terrible the Guyana business community cannot pick this up. Further i agree, what about our own talents? plus if Miss Canada was such marketing hot shot, the Ontario gov and Canadian Tourism Commission would have utilized that talent. Good luck trying to use a beauty queen to sell to Canadians. CAN $250,000.....man tell me about being blatant!

I produce video around the world and i uderstand budgets and based on hotel stays for crew (40,000), Airline (30,000), Transportation Costs, Staff Salaries, Insurances, Film Fees, Equipment costs etc...there is your 250,000 budget...so Guyana count yourself lucky that this guy didn;t ask the government for a cent of money, it sounds like a great concept to me....

As a Marketing and Sales person, I know how important that we showcase (for a change) our country's positive attributes. Guyana has a lot to offer tourists that they would not see elsewhere. If we cant do it ourselves then hats off to those that have taken this step! Good luck and best wishes

It never surprises me how stupid the majority of Guyanese can be. Using a Canadian to promote our country!? Don't we have beauty queens too? You guys are ridiculous!! Another case of blatant stupidity!

Please remember there is a huge Guyanese population IN Canada. At least some one is proud enough of their heritage to showcase the best of Guyana and try to raise tourism dollars. Perhaps utilizing Miss Canada will raise awareness within other cultures as Canada happens to be one of the most ethnically diverse countries on the planet! It's nice to see Guyana stepping up and trying to garner more attention on an international platform. Hats off!
