Ten Lindeners arrested during protests in the community have appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court with one remanded to prison and the others out on bail.

They appeared before Principal Magistrate Haze Octive-Hamilton and were represented by Attorneys-at-Law Basil Williams and James Bond.

According to a Guyana Police Force release Glenroy Chapman, 34, of Half Mile, Wismar, was charged with throwing missiles, assaulting a peace officer and possession of a component of ammunition.

“He was placed on bail on the other two charges and remanded to prison until September 17, 2012, on the charge of possession of component of ammunition,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Ulric Lowenfield, 24, of Blue Berry Hill, Wismar; Garfield Jones, 44, of Silvertown, Wismar; Dexter Benjamin, 35, of Half Mile, Wismar; Jamal Somerset, 19, of Wisroc Housing Scheme, Wismar; Kareen Ashby, 44, Ivan Webster, 29, and Delson Lampkin, 43, all of Amelia’s Ward, Linden were all charged with throwing missiles.

They were placed on $7,500.00 bail each and are to return to court on September 17.

Ricky Fredericks, 44, of One Mile, Wismar, was charged with using indecent language and placed on $5,000.00 bail and is to return to court on September 17.

What a shame, what happen to the police who shoot and kill 3 persons, wounding 20 others, why candy man was release when he confess to burning down Wismar school, where is the justice in Guyana, I am consoling myself by thinking that Rome was World Power and they fell, Hitler was killing out Jews, that collapse, slavery was abolished, this can't go on forever, Egypt took 40 years of dictatorship from their president, till they say no more and we could go on, time will tell, evil that men do lives to haunt them

The police really have a lot of time to waste.

Charging these people with a set of ridiculous offences.

Looks like scare tactics to me.

I don't care who is behind the arsons - whether PPP supporters or protestors - this must be properly determined and the culprits made to pay the consequences. Rumors are circulating the Lindeners who are PPPites are behind the fires, with approval from Georgetown, and that is why no one has been actually caught redhanded, and if the rumors are true, this is unfair because the impression being conveyed by the PPP is that Linden protestors are the arsonists. Demerarawaves, please help ferret out the truth from the tall tales and ask Lindeners to verify or villify the circulating rumors. Even if the speakers vent on condition of anonymity.

I am also wondering the same. Then Watts was sent to cause more aggrivation in the town. Looks like the GPF is having another Henry Greene in the lead...how many badges has Brummel collected as yet?

All charged are men under 45 years of age. Get off ur lazy asses and get a job and in some cases an education.

You can find time to burn a school but not attend one? Lindeners are a disgrace to all of mankind.

Mr Emile_Mervin can you help clear this issue up, I have asked for some information in a previous comment but reading your comment here gives me the impression that you might have the answers. Is this a protest by the people of region 10 arrived at after consultation with their regional leaders, if so is there minutes to back this up, or is it a protest by the oppositions false using the name of the regional administration. If its a protest by the region there ought to be no line drawn along party affiliation distinguishing one protester from the other once that person is living in the region and do so for a number of years. they should all be refer to as protesters and any action taken by on is the action taken by all. I can hear the hue and cry for the school and the talk of infiltration etc which any planner of these activities know and should think of in the planning stage. Can you tell me how can the effects of burning a school down compare to the effects of burning the only bridge that connects regions 7, 8, 9, and 10 to the rest of the Country. In my opinion the effects of cause by the school is like a drop in the ocean to those that will be cause by the bridge but I do not hear the hue and cry from the attempt destruction of the bridge. Can you help with these clarification Mr Mervin, or anybody else can.

lindeners do not object to paying a fair share of electtricity tariffs. it is asking for a review of the current real cost of generaing electricity in linden by bosai.
and any difference between that cos and the current it will pay
it also asks that better economic environment b put in place to facilitate economic strength.
the government has not told you that the 2billion hey talk about includes the money that they pay for government facilities and street lights which they also pay for in the city and else whee in guyana.
they did not tell u that from the first of july lindeners were required to pay a 600% increase. if that was gradual then wha will the ultimate cost be.
I am aware that many of you in the city get a lot of black out and still pay large bills . hae u wondered why that is so
are you paying for the inefficiencies of gpl.
try to find out the cost of generating electricity by bosai as opposed to gpl and u will understand some thing more about the reasons for protesting

What you are seeing is an old dog that has no new tricks. We have always had to struggle for what we want as a people. Please do not forget your history; we had to suffer much pain to bring Guyana to what it is and today the struggle continues. Don’t give up the fight '' get up stand up; stand up for your right''.
A word to the police and forces your action against your brothers will come back to haunt you. You know the history of the PPP the will get you to commit crimes on your own people and one day each our will become a personal victim. That's how the PPP has always opperated.
I am happy to see some opposition leaders who got your votes speaking up for your cause. Just stay strong and focused. The time is right for you to state clearly that you will not burn schools. Since you know that the PPP will burn them and claim it is you. I know that you will not do that but my brothers/sisters but know it is just the beginning.
Warning to the PPP don’t you ever believe that black blood is cheap! The last government under Barrat lost a golden opportunity to bring Guyana closer to ONE PEOPLE; but instead they carried out the old racists policies of the 60's. I always knew that they would find a way to punish you for rejecting them. That snake has not changed its skin.
But my people slavery did not kill us and this will not. I want you to know that no weapon formed against you will prosper. Let me make a direct quote for you. ISAIAH 54:17
‘No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue [that] shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This [is] the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness [is] of me, saith the LORD’.
Claim these words as a people and watch the one who was always fighting your battles show up for you. Shout it out loud and teach it to your children for you are the heritage of the ‘MOST HIGH’.
My people you are bless you victory will turn up faster than you think.
