"Significant progress" in Region 10- Govt talks-- Regional Chairman PDF  | Print |

Region 10 Chairman, Sharma Solomon.

Region 10 Chairman, Sharma Solomon was Wednesday night upbeat about talks with the Guyana government aimed at ending the almost one month old unrest in Linden.

“We have made significant progress again (and) I am hopeful that there is nothing that would be done to again undermine the amount of progress that was once again mad,” he told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com).

Authorities hope that they are getting closer to resolving the matter and having protesters clear remaining obstacles in Wismar- the gateway to several interior locations. The protests were infiltrated with robbers, extortionists and other opportunists.

After government cancelled the talks last week Friday, both sides returned to the bargaining table  for three hours of talks on Wednesday.

Sharma said both sides submitted names of members of a proposed bipartisan technical committee to study Linden’s electricity sector. Government has already agreed to suspend the increase in electricity tariffs from July 1.

Te Regional Chairman was, however, sceptical about the depth of work that the committee has been tasked with. That is because vital records were destroyed by last week’s fire at a government building that housed the offices of the Linden Electricity Company Incorporated.

“I, however, remain concerned that that LECI building which was burnt down which holds vital information for this committee to work with may in some part take away from some of that investigative capacity because a lot of the resources that would have been needed were housed and stored in that building,” he said.

In relation to the liberalization of the television spectrum in Linden to provide for privately owned stations, Sharma said he was  advised that Opposition Leader, David Granger has agreed to nominate a member to the National Broadcasting Authority.

The Region 10 administration not only wants private television stations but is demanding that government returns a television channel, a dish and transmitter that was taken away and put under the umbrella of the state-owned National Communications Network.

Agreement was also reached for the regional Land Selection Committee to reflect the make-up of the region and chaired by the Regional Chairman. The Region had expressed concern that government had been allocating prime lands to its favourites.

The formulation of economic proposals that includes a package of incentives is yet to be addressed, he said.

The two sides are expected to hold another round of talks on Thursday.

What you are seeing is an old dog that has no new tricks. We have always had to struggle for what we want as a people. Please do not forget your history; we had to suffer much pain to bring Guyana to what it is and today the struggle continues. Don’t give up the fight '' get up stand up; stand up for your right''.
A word to the police and forces your action against your brothers will come back to haunt you. You know the history of the PPP the will get you to commit crimes on your own people and one day each our will become a personal victim. That's how the PPP has always opperated.
I am happy to see some opposition leaders who got your votes speaking up for your cause. Just stay strong and focused. The time is right for you to state clearly that you will not burn schools. Since you know that the PPP will burn them and claim it is you. I know that you will not do that but my brothers/sisters but know it is just the beginning.
Warning to the PPP don’t you ever believe that black blood is cheap! The last government under Barrat lost a golden opportunity to bring Guyana closer to ONE PEOPLE; but instead they carried out the old racists policies of the 60's. I always knew that they would find a way to punish you for rejecting them. That snake has not changed its skin.
But my people slavery did not kill us and this will not. I want you to know that no weapon formed against you will prosper. Let me make a direct quote for you. ISAIAH 54:17
‘No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue [that] shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This [is] the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness [is] of me, saith the LORD’.
Claim these words as a people and watch the one who was always fighting your battles show up for you. Shout it out loud and teach it to your children for you are the heritage of the ‘MOST HIGH’.
My people you are bless you victory will turn up faster than you think.

Mr. Sharma tell you the truth I really want to believe you on the "hopeful" stuff. However, there are elements on both side of the fence seem bent on getting as much political mileage as possible from this issue. There seems to a "shortage" of sincerity on both side to resolve this quickly with each "itching" to grab their ball and go home. Anyway, I do believe in God and that miracles do happen and because of that only - I am a bit hopeful.

Today the truth is coming out. We now hear that significant progress was made and persons were robed and assaulted during protest. Moreover we now know what the ultimate aim of the protest action is. For those who have doubts, please read what David Hinds said last evening.

Persons should be reminded that robbery/extortion, blocking of public thoroughfares, damage to public and private properties, as well as the call for the forceful removal of a democratically elected government are not legal activities in Guyana. The space called peaceful protest have all of the aforementioned facets. Thank God that Demerara waves brought this out in this article and the one where David Hinds called for the removal of the government. We now know the truth a out the Linden protest, thanks Dem Wave

I want to make a special note to this: If the Land Comittee is chaired by / oversee by the regional chairman - Sharma Solomon, check his assets before the commencement of this committee, and track carefully his developments. Sharma Solomon has nothing in his name, and this whole situation is a gateway for him to make money illegally and his exposing his character as an opportunist. He will become, like many, a man who will exort money from lindeners!! Watch and see, Sharma Solomon will be driving an allion/ premio soon, he is a low life, hand tro mouth lindener

Minister, you sounds like your blood is black in stead of red. you need to look at the issues instead of the race. You come to america and you want to kill the white folks; in guyana you blame the indians--90% of indian are in agriculture and buisness instead of occupying berbice car park liming. With all the vacant land around Linden there should be 10 chicken farms and 10 pig farms and in 9 to 10 weeks one can see a profit.

I DON'T TRUST ANYONE OF THEM, I SMELL A FISH,...IF SOLOMOM TRUST THEM, LET HIM REMEMBER HE HAS LINDENER'S JOB TO FULLFILL,....GILL, LUNCHEON, LUMUMBA, RAMOTAR N THE REST R SMART ONES,...MARK MY WORDS, IT'S PROMISES, JUST TO GET LINDENERS OFF THE STREETS, FROM PROTESTING....dont say I didn't mentioned this.....IT'S ALL A DARN TRAP ALL R GOING TO FALL FOR IT, TRUST ME.

Lindeners aren't going to receive compensations, no tv stations, no arrests for killing citizens, no arrests for injuries, no arrest for nothing the GDF N GPF did.

Lindeners r going to ceast protesting, because of promises, in the end, IT WOULD BE BUSINESS AS USUAL IN LINDEN.

Region 10 chairman need not to count his apples before he has the fruit basket in his hands. It ain't over 'til is over or till the fat lady sings. Nothing should be agreed on until everything is agreed on. It is important that the polivce who shoot the folks in Lined are criminally charged and place before the courts. We need our own generating station, our own TV station, LEAP funding, our land in the area, especially those land which was owned by generations of blacks since the days of the rail road and pine company and timber grants. we need to be very careful with these criminal. A solution does not stop criminal charges and accountability for what happen by using military force to solve a political issue.

Marva what are you talking about girl, the regime leader showed little respect for the people of linden , what about the 3 men that was murdered all of this could have been avoided, but crafty and deceitful ramator wanted the situation to escalate so that this would create problems between the main races.

Thank God that this did not happen, and this was done to win back the indians votes that the ppp regime lost at the last elections.

Afro Guyanese people must never ever again trust this ppp racist apartheid regime, if they ever do, then they deserve all that they get and cannot blame anyone .

It cleary shows without any doubt that this regime is prepared to kill and to oppress black people in Guyana to remain in power.

The people of linden should not welcome ramator and his cronnies to their town, it is insulting to the people of linden that all these weeks he is only visiting them now.

I do not see the point of ramator going to linden, its not going to solve anything , the damage has allready being done by his regime actions, you cant bring those men back to life and the indiscriminate shooting of women and children showed us how this regime thinks about us as Afro Guyanese, our lives is not worth anything to them.

Wake up black people of Guyana, we must not never ever forget what happened in on 18th july 2012. This event must be told by parents to all of thier children now and for ever Amen

The Jewish never forgot the holocaust, so what happened here in linden and the extra judical killings of Afro Guyanese between 2004-2006 is our holocoust.

They kill us today and we forget tomorrow.People of Linden I beg u not to wellcome ramator into your community.

Stay firm and JAH bless and guide you all , Please do not make peace or compromise with the devil.

This is good news. Negotiating is key. It is very tough but in the end, all have to return to the negotiating table. Trade Unionists employ both tatics:strike, goslow/picketing/ peacfeul demonstrating and NEGOTIATING. We have a culture from Hubert Nathaniel Critchlow through Ayube Edun and beyond that we must strengthen. We must avert the path of Sieera Leone, Rwanda, Burundi Yugoslavia and other nation-state that lost it. Leadership at all levels must not give up on negotiating.

Pasha there are three sides to a story: the proponent's side, the opponent's side and the truth. In any conflict truth is the main fatality or casualty. Do not allow your superior mind to be diluted by emotions and/or prejudice. What David Hinds has said is consistent with what he has been saying during the Burnham era. He has been consistent against any form of oppression. That is what has won democracy its validity. The unadulterated truth is that the government through its coercive arm of the state has created three martyrs of Liden. That is fact and truth.

You people had to struggle a great deal after you burnt down Wismar in 1962 and sent thousands running away for their lives. Teach your children that. Also you should let them know whose properties you are living on now. You displaced those people and now you're claiming ownership. Please let your children know whose land you are living and then they'll ask you. Is that true dad?

Sharma Soloman has to pay keen interest in the arson of the LECI building, was this an act of protesters anger or a move by the PPPC to stall negotiations.
It just seems that his entourage would perpetrate an act that would stall negotiations for what they are fighting for.

To Sukrishnalall pasha and Moe Bajrangi, you are so blind with your petty racist feelings, that you can't see the truth, when you live in a country that your forefathers helped to build and you are ruled by a pro Indian government that gives all government contracts to Indian people, and when a Black man wants to open a legitimate business he has to bring his proof of birth his forefathers birth certificate plus a fat bribe to even get started, then you know why they don't have farms on the Highway and they have to hustle on the streets to make a living to feed their families.
You Moe Bajrangi should check the history of them United States you live in and what they did to get their rights from the British Government before you go shooting off at the mouth.
I do not condone the destruction of property to gain change.
