Plans by Buxtonians to stop traffic on the The little more than 12 persons, bearing banners and placards, snarled traffic for about three minutes shortly after 9 AM when they circled across the road in the vicinity of the filling station. A police mobile patrol quickly arrived on the scene by which time the protesters had already regrouped on the southern side of the thoroughfare. “I’m not here to interfere with you all peaceful protest but we are just asking you to be orderly and let the traffic flow,” a police officer told the protesters. The protesters carried placards, stating “Buxton in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Asked why he thought so few persons responded to his party’s call to block and possibly dig up the road, Working Peoples Alliance (WPA) Executive Member, Professor David Hinds said “only a fool would announce what they are going to do and when they are going to do it.” He said his previous utterances were aimed at alerting Guyanese that when people are offended they can barricade and dig up the roads if police continue to kill protesters and the country continues to be badly governed. “It is an option that we must not give up and it is the option of extra parliamentary struggle of using what means you have.” He disputed earlier reports that his party had asked Buxtonians to go out and block the road Saturday morning. He also did not expect villagers to voluntarily join in the picket because the party did not publicise its intention to hold the activity. “We must not give up the right to retaliate. I think that right to retaliate has been slowly taken away from us. It’s being criminalized and the message here is to tell people that you have the right and there must always be an option to retaliate and the people must decide when to retaliate,” he said. When asked whether he had not told residents at a public meeting earlier this week that they had a date on Saturday and that “Buxton people stop train. On Saturday we stop car,” the veteran WPA member would only say that “Saturday is young, we have all day today.” Reacting to Police Commissioner, Leroy Brummel’s assertion that leaders were only riling up supporters and afraid of being on the frontline, Hinds flayed police weak police intelligence because he has been always in the forefront. The WPA activist accused the top cop of plotting to kill him. “He is saying that he is ready to kill me because he is daring me to come on the frontline so that he can show his force and so I want to go on record as saying that Mr Brummel has issued a death warrant for me and I take that very seriously." Hinds also said that he has lost confidence in the Police Commissioner because he has echoed the government's view that political leaders have been riling up supporters and abandoning them rather than being with them on the frontline. Here we have the Commissioner of Police repeating the PPP’s song book and that is very ominous so I think I have reached the point where we can no longer have confidence in Mr. Brummel and I put that within the larger context of the ruling class in this country, and particular the African ruling class, which is prepared to murder its own people, which is prepared to look after its own personal aggrandizement at the expense of the people,” he said. Several WPA leaders were on the The state-run Government Information Agency (GINA) quoted Presidential Advisor on Governance, Gail Teixeira as taking a verbal swipe at Hinds, a United States-based Political Science Professor. GINA reported that Teixeira believes that for persons who would like to undermine what has been achieved, it is regrettable, and alluded specifically to the comments made by Working People’s Alliance member David Hinds who does not live in Guyana but ‘hops on a plane and tells us as a people what to do’. “I don’t think this is the time for naysayers or persons who feel that they know better than those of us who sat in the room hour after hour, day after day…this is the time for us to recognise that this stage we have reached at, is one that has to be nurtured, encouraged and built on and not to be dissected and used as an opportunity for further problems,” Teixeira said.
Professor Hinds described the initialled agreement between the Region 10 Council and the Donald Ramotar administration on Friday as a “giant step forward” to address Lindeners’ concerns about a hike in electricity rates, liberalization of the television spectrum and the crafting of an economic plan for the once bauxite-dependent town. He credited the success of the negotiations to more than 20 days of unrest in the town that saw key roads through the town to the interior being locked off. The tension also resulted in three persons being killed and 20 others injured during clashes with police as well several public buildings burnt down. “Let us understand that what happened there yesterday would not have occurred without the people of At the same time he urged vigilance by Lindeners to ensure that the agreement is implemented because of the Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) administration’s history of not honouring agreements. “If they do not implement these things, we must have the option of forcing them to retaliate.” For her part, the Presidential Advisor on Governance assured that government would implement the agreement with the Region 10 Council under the Chairmanship of Sharma Solomon. “It has been a long road to reach this and we anticipate that this will bring some leveling off and cooling down of the passions and the rhetoric…we were able to get to the business of having signed the agreement on Monday and get into the business of implementing what has been agreed to,” Teixeira was quoted as saying by GINA. The Region 10 Chairman was later Saturday due to explain to residents the details of the agreement and by early next week sign it with government representatives. That would almost certainly see the removal of remaining obstructions on roads in Regions 7,8 and 9 have for several weeks now had to go with little or no supplies of basic necessities and in some cases relying on trickles through Georgetown-Parika-Essequibo River-Bartica-Potaro or by plane. |

They will be more united to see their Party back in Power with absolute majority.
keep the traffic for sometime and then let them go, people will be in solidarity with your cause
Mr Commissoner hurrah to you , prolly saved a few brothers life
Professor David Hinds, the supreme law officer didn’t send out a “death warrant” for you, but was just reminding you to protest peacefully and don’t ‘dig up roads’ and ‘block traffics’. He knows that you are a coward who is all talk and no actions and suggested to you that if you’re a real man then come out and show the protestors how to dig up roads and do other unlawful activities. The Commissioner was being nice to you; by advising that you can be better active if you are there with the demonstrators and put your fork and shovel where your mouth is. Go try it; you’ll like it.
The other message here is that people have seen the folly of what transpired in Linden and have shown better sense. With school, businesses, govt offices now burnt down and hundreds out of work who has lost and who has gained.
Hinds will hop back to the USA where his high paying job awaits him. The people in Buxton will hold "wood" when he is gone.
APNU should realize that when they teamed up with WPA they were teaming up with nothing.

Anyone knows where he lives in the US? I wonder if he lives near me.
Buxton is the cat.
Police represented by the maid.
Learn the lesson here!!
Bertrand the monkey persuades Raton the cat to pull chestnuts from the embers amongst which they are roasting, promising him a share. As the cat scoops them from the fire one by one, burning his paw in the process, the monkey gobbles them up. They are disturbed by a maid entering and the cat gets nothing for its pains.[
he nonsense and foolishness backfire on him
the buxtonians are peaceful and educated people who can see through crooks like hinds
and do the sensible and honourable things
africans must demonstrate peacefully and calmy, with all the necessary permits, obey police instructions and obey the law
don't fall for the pee pee pee bait of violence and destruction to drive racial voting and the indians to vote the communists and corrupted crooks back into a majority
hinds - git - gwan dat side
the wpa seems divided as roopnarine is siding with solomon et al
Hinds is saying "He is saying that he is ready to kill me..."
But this same "professor" would like us to think he is fighting for justice when he incites people... “Buxton people stop train. On Saturday we stop car”.
Now if this joker was charged for treason for saying things like, their goal is to bring down the Ramotar regime, then they would cry discrimination.
I've said it before and will say it again, you want to bring about change, relocate to Guyana and work with the small man, social work, community work, if you can't do that, SHUT THE HELL UP!
NB: DEMERARAWAVES AND OTHER MEDIA HOUSES MUST DESIST FROM PUBLISHING STATEMENTS BY PEOPLE LIKE HINDS,KISSOON ET AL, THAT WILL LEAD TO CONFRONTATION AMONG OUR PEOPLE.THEY MUST STOP GIVING THESE PEOPLE THE ATTENTION THEY ARE SEEKING.
YES DEPORT HIM FROM GUYANA
LET HIM GO BACK AND SERVE HIS WHITE MASTERS AS HE HAS DONE IN THE PAST
HE GETTING OLD AND NEAR RETIREMENT SO WANT TO COME BACK AND RULE LIKE A MAHARAJA NEE KABAKA
After all he is the WPA representative on APNU. Like he is being marginalized by his own party and WPA colleague David Hinds.
Wonder why Hinds did not call on AFC. Ramjattan stirred the pot well at Linden. Mayby his experience in stirring should be tapped upon.
Is he confirming that he is a fool.
Didn't he say he is going to block the road at Buxton and will do so on Saturday? So he called on the people and got this huge response that he is now jerking off.
Like his other narcissist buddy Freddie he too thinks he is Rodney. These guys think so highly of themselves it is not funny. Hinds says Brummel wants to kill him and Freddie says the govt wants to get rid of him.
These two guys thinks they wield so much influence that the whole world shakes when they talk much less little Guyana.
must be arrested and charged for incited
the buxtion residence to commit a crime
and race riot in guyana, the home afairs
minister and the commissioner of police
should informed the u.s.embassy in guyana
David Hinds is spoutng this nonsense bcuz he does NOT live in Guyana and DOES NOT live in Buxton. When he returns to his big job in the US, I DARE HIM to attempt a similar action in the USA i.e. blocking roads, digging up roads, and other disruptive acts -- I DARE HIM. He is a US citizen and has rights --- I DARE HIM TO TRY THIS IN THE STATES. This guy is DELUSIONAL and in his twisted mind is out to make some kinda name for himself. But not this time David. Give up ur wicked ways and if you want to control people, apply for a PRISON GUARD job in the US. You'll excell at this job since it's an environment where you spent a lot of time and should be an expert.
hinds is an attention seeker and would do anything to get the press focused on him. he's crazy!
Quoting loro buxton:
Jim Jones killed many with his KOOL AID in GT. Loro, lora whoever you are, be careful, this is the david hinds kool aid and his sorry attempt to to start a cult--you have either already taken a dose of his kool aid and need your stomach pumped or you are just as delusional as hinds. Let's not repeat Jonestown.
This reads as an incitement and is suggestive of protest rights as rights to break the law. What has also been achieved here is the criminalising of the protest space by those who think that it is ok to take away others' rights (i.e. the right to have access to public roads and not have it blocked) in claiming their rights. If this is the case, are there any rights? Does one free for all cancel others? If in raising your voice and your placard, you scare many other fellow citizens and show the law as ineffective through your disregard, are you promoting your cause or promoting an old style politics of fear and violence? when is it a right to block public access? when and where is this the right of protest action? in which country can protestors deliberately block public roads and intentionally close access to other citizens? How can this be defined as a right?
This IDIOT Hinds has never lead a protest in the USA, he lived in washington dc, the capital of the States where most protests take place and it has never been reported that he protested anything. He needs some medicatiom for his MENTAL ILLNESS.
if he do catche he and beat his mudda******
The events of the 60's destroyed a thriving community of Buxton where all races lived and prospered and as of today, no a fraction of theat prominence has been restored. Who lost?
Leroy Brummel is a diciplined and professional police officer. He hails from good parentage and nurturing and his skills were honed through the many awards and achievements as a top karate practicioner in Guyana. Leroy has the mindset and courage to be a good police commissioner and he is not a stooge as he is not a PPP supporter. Leroy joined the police in the 70's and rose to prominence in the police force through hard work, dedication and discipline. I applaud his stance on this illegal call by the mal-inteentioned trouble maker.
David Hinds is a citizen of the US and pays his taxes here. Why don't he stand up to the injustices of the colored people in the US where i am quite sure, happens in front of his nose. Maybe he should dig up the road in front of the racist Arizona Police department HQ. They will put him in one of those nice, air conditioned prison they are building in AZ now.
