Demerara Waves Online News was told that more than 40 persons were onsite at 10AM and the numbers continue to grow. Lindeners have vowed that they will rebuild the school themselves and have started receiving financial and other assistance even as the government has committed towards having the school rebuilt. Education Minister Priya Manickchand told DemWaves on Sunday that her ministry wants to have the school back up as soon as possible. When asked if they were prepared to work with Lindeners on this task she stated that she believed it was something on which they should be united. “We are always happy to work with communities and indeed believe that it is only with the input of communities that we can get the best buildings and other infrastructure built. It would hardly be sensible or beneficial to the relevant children to quibble about who does what. We, Lindeners and government, must, do what is in the best interest of the children who are currently affected,” Manickchand stated. She added that through the regional education officers they have proposed a plan catering for the placement of all the children but were going to consult with the parents of the children on Monday to ensure they have the best possible plan. “Thereafter, there is going to be a flurry of activity focused on implementing whatever we decide on Tuesday. This would include the procurement of a large number of pieces of furniture, equipment, blackboards, screens etcetera that were all destroyed in the fire. Our priority right now is to find accommodation for all the 846 children so that they may begin school on the 3rd September like every other Guyanese child and not in any way be disadvantaged,” Manickchand said. Monday’s meeting is scheduled for 11AM at the Wismar Hill Primary School. The One Mile Primary School was torched in the early hours of last Sunday in what was the latest of a series of fires that struck Linden during the one-month protest over the government’s move to increase electricity rates and the subsequent killing of three protesters. Protesters have been adamant in stating that they did not set the fire and were instrumental in helping the police capture a suspect. However, the individual has since been released with the police stating that there was insufficient evidence to charge the man. |

"insufficient evidence"
As a guyanese who has always loved Linden, I feel that this is a transformative time for Guyana. And that linden must lead the way. Non only should this primary school be rebuilt .But it should be 'state of the art ' with modern designes and facilities for the arts ,sciences and sports. If this require that school be relocated to a larger plot of land to accomodate the up grades then the council and govt/min of education should convene ASAP.
More over the new development plan for the region should include a package for the development of sports. Land should be appropeated for Linden to have Guyana's first football stadum. And it would be right if Kuru Kuru College become home to that regions first artificial athletic track.
Mr Solomon and the leaders of region 10 must remember that you 'STRIKE WHEN THE IORN IS HOT'.After years of neglect Linden has much catching-up to do. The future is now.
college must also
Govt undertakes to rebuild the burned school and many are offended: NICIL rips off the country of BILLIONS and the silence of many is deafening.
You seem to forget that ALL!EVERY SINGLE CENT that the GoG SQUANDERS comes from the POOR tax-payers....Lindeners ALL SHOULDERS TO THE WHEEL in the best interest of the youths who will be the leaders of tomorrow. Every one should CHIP IN to re-build this school as early as possible
why is the govt attempting to insult the capacity of the ppl of linden, the reg, chair indicate their willingness to demonstrate their capacity to rebuild the school,he should be given a chance, the govt can always pitch in later,
however lindeners should also contribute in labour and materials as a goodwill gesture
WHEN THOSE CULPRITS ARE JAILED THEN THIS WILL BE AN EGALITARIAN STATE COZ EVEN DE BIG GOONS WILL LIGHT THEIR CANDLE IN DE OVERCROWDED PRISON. THEN THEY CAN LOOK AT LINDEN
Quoting Sukrishnalall Pasha:
Lindeners have always been about building and developing their community. That's what started the protest in the first place; a call for development, building a strong economy that could sustain the community. The proposed hike in electricity rates was seen as an effort to sink the community into the ground and make it very impoverish. The heart of the people is with their community.
It is true that this government will use this as a political platform so as to win the hearts of the people and in so doing their eyes will be blinded from seeing all of the corruption that is still taking place in Georgetown by their friends and brown nosers.
This Government said that it will stamp down on corruption, They setup a net to catch the big fish and all like now not one of the big fish get catch.
I hear that there have two nets. One with fine holes to catch the small man and the other one with two big big holes to let the big fish get away.
There are funeral grounds, looks like forest's,on the East Coast Dem Public Roads,Clogged Drainage And Irrigations, Bad Roads, for several Years and the Govt Gives a Blind Eyes on it, now they have immediate money to spent on Linden.Wake up Govt and Ministers.
