Well-known cricket and Mashramani mascot, Joseph Taylor, who four months ago hammered his reputed wife, on Monday committed suicide, just days after he was freed on a charge of felonious wounding.

Taylor,44,drank a mixture of poison after calling his partner of 13 years- Eureka Garraway- and telling her to collect her furniture before wishing her good bye because she would not see him again. He was also a phone vendor on the Regent Street pavement outside Broadway Fashions.

Garraway told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) that after Taylor was freed last Thursday because she declined to lead evidence against him, she left for Linden to “cool my head.”

“We were still together and I forgive him and I show him that I would  make him walk free and God got to judge him,” she told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com).

She said an Indian man later called her, saying that Taylor was in possession of a bottle of poison at his Prashad Nagar home and was threatening to drink it. He subsequently ingested the substance and was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Taylor had hammered Garraway’s head and face on April 4, rendering her intermittently unconscious in a city hospital for several days. She had received several stitches.

She said she had to seek police assistance to obtain a few pieces of clothing that Taylor had been preventing her from collecting.

Garraway said since her arrival in Linden he had been calling her repeatedly, telling her that he could not afford for their more than one decade old relationship to end.

Neighbours later called her saying that Taylor’s brother and other relatives had allegedly fetched away all the furniture.

“Suicide is a form of murder - premeditated murder. It isn't something you do the first time you think of doing it. It takes getting used to. And you need the means, the opportunity, the motive. A successful suicide demands good organization and a cool head, both of which are usually incompatible with the suicidal state of mind. Good riddance to him and ............ her

It hard and I am sorry. Many women do not know that men have feelings and we r judged harshly. For me walking away is the best option and also I would tell any young man not to put all ur eggs in one basket. I am not saying to screw around but to have another relationship as a spare. If he had that he would have had a woman to go to. Faithfulness is not always a wise thing for a man. Sorry if I offend many of u here but sometimes self preservation if the best way out.

What a sad ending for this couple. He gained nothing but lost his life. Why couldn't her accept the woman's wishes and move on. Foolishness!

This might be tough to some but he should have done this act long before he battered his wife wortless, hope all men who consistantly beat their partner do the same no sympathy here.

You have no right to pass judgement on her decision. You do not know that influenced it. Maybe she is a highly religious person and truly believes that God is the greatest Judge. If the situation occurred before, in what way did you help her. Yes she truly needs psychiatric evaluation, but to deal with the consequences of all that occurred in her life, and not because she is unhinged.

We are not the one to say NO PLACE for WIFE BEATERS ... I do not condone his beatings but with Counseling where most Guyanese do NOT like to accept, he could have been helped. Marital problem mixed with Alcohol is the oldest WRONG potion ... Taylor sin was VISUAL to ALL and that is ALWAYS chastised ... do you know how many ppl do wrong but NOT VISUAL to all ... They go to church but steal from the tax man ... raping kids ... Cheat on their wives and neglect their families ... What ever happened to the Muslim guy who was accused of screwing the little boys and BOYS CAME FORWARD? That story was ducked??????

All that is needed is legislation allowing men to flog their wives humanely. Set out a legal framework as to how many lashes to administer for wrong doing, this way many men will know how to put a fuss class cut ass in a humane way of their wives.
