seandefreitasThe man, whose shot and tortured body was found on a Thomas Road, Georgetown parapet, had allegedly owed several persons advances for vehicles, police said.

Police Chief of Criminal Investigations, Deputy Commissioner Seelall Persaud said investigators have learnt that about one month ago a man had called the dead man's wife, demanding a vehicle or money and made threatening remarks.

Persaud was not in a position to say what was the nature of the threat.

The body of 25-year old Shawn De Freitas Sukhdeo of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara was discovered shortly after 6 O’clock Tuesday morning. It bore several gunshot wounds and burnt marks.

So far investigators have learnt that the man had owed amounts of GUY$500,000 and G UY$300,000. It is unclear how many more persons he had owed.

He was due to leave Guyana Tuesday, the apparent reason for his passport having been in his possession at the time of his death.

Police did not retrieve any spent shells from the scene and hope that warheads would be retrieved from Sukhdeo’s body during an autopsy.

He travelled often to the Caribbean but police are unclear what was the nature of his visits.
