Police Chief of Criminal Investigations, Deputy Commissioner Seelall Persaud told Demerara Waves Online News that one of those arrested is a staff member of Roraima Airways. A senior Roraima Airways official said his staff member and a representative of a well-known catering company were arrested. The estimated amount of the cocaine is 1 kilogramme, the airline official said. Airport security became suspicious after the Roraima Airways security official was in an area that he should not have been. The Roraima representative was at the time accompanying meals for an outgoing Delta Airlines flight to New York. Despite efforts to tighten security at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, smugglers have been finding new and creative ways of attempting to beat the system. At least three bags of cocaine amounting to more than 25 kilogrammes have been found at various areas of the airport in recent weeks. More than a dozen staff who work for various entities at the airport have had their passes withdrawn by the CJIA. |
