cocaineAt least two persons were Monday morning arrested in connection with the discovery of a quantity of cocaine at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.

Police Chief of Criminal Investigations, Deputy Commissioner Seelall Persaud told Demerara Waves Online News that one of those arrested is a staff member of Roraima Airways.

A senior Roraima Airways official said his staff member and a representative of a well-known catering company were arrested.

The estimated amount of the cocaine is 1 kilogramme, the airline official said.

Airport security became suspicious after the Roraima Airways security official was in an area that he should not have been.

The Roraima representative was at the time accompanying meals for an outgoing Delta Airlines flight to New York.

Despite efforts to tighten security at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, smugglers have been finding new and creative ways of attempting to beat the system.

At least three bags of cocaine amounting to more than 25 kilogrammes have been found at various areas of the airport in recent weeks. More than a dozen staff who work for various entities at the airport have had their passes withdrawn by the CJIA.

The govt is doing a fantastic job curbing the trafficking of drugs
Combined with 5.0 GDP per annum
Guyana moving forward despite efforts by the destructive elements of our society

Change that net. It is high time to change that kind of net where the BIG fish always get away and only the small small fish end up being caught.

Yall sure is not the food they bust? Because last time I was in Gt cocaine was legal. It got to be because with all the drug lords that living in peace and building sky scrapers it got to be legal to sell crack.

Jail them for the food, they should know better than to smuggle pastries and curry chicken on an out going aircraft.

It is always the employees of airlines and service providers stationed at the airport who are involved. Kudos on catching them.

"chatter" stop chattering. Peter Sam is on the button. This is the innovative way of achieving growing GDP catch a few small fishes and live it up with the big fishes. The drug traffickers, for you are not destructive elements even as their destruction is at your door and in your house destroying the moral, psychological and social fabric of the society. They will be destroyed and you with them so that there can be a narco-free economy.

@Lall bahadur chatter Paul Singh... You obviously don't live in Guyana. Drugs lords are multiplying and getting richer. The cocaine found is miniscule in comparison to what flows thru this land of ours. The Govt gets an F- in the drug 'war'.
