Miss Universe Leila Lopes and President Donald Ramotar.

Miss Universe Leila Lopes Thursday paid a courtesy call on President Donald Ramotar in the company of a small entourage three days before she makes a special guest appearance at the 2012 Miss Guyana Universe pageant.

The 27-year-old native of Angola who made history as the first woman from that country to win the Miss Universe crown in Sao Paulo, Brazil had an enlightening conversation with the Head of State in the presence of Acting Minister of Tourism Irfaan Ali, Minister of Human Services and Social Security Jennifer Webster and Presidential Adviser on Community Development Odinga Lumumba.

“Normally when we know we’re going to meet a President we tend to feel a little bit nervous but he made me feel very comfortable… he asked me about my country I asked him about his country… it was a very nice conversation,” she was quoted as saying in a release by the Government Information Agency (GINA).

She is counting on her presence at the upcoming Miss Guyana Universe pageant including meeting and interacting with the 11 delegates to motivate and inspire the contestants to understand what it takes to win the crown

“At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how beautiful you are you have to be smart,” Lopes said in an invited comment.

Lopes will be performing the duties of crowning Miss Guyana Universe who will be representing the country at the 61st Miss Universe Pageant to be held on December 11 at a venue announced by the Miss Universe Organisation.

The final segment of the pageant will be staged on September 15 at the Princess Hotel two days after the Question and Answer segment which is scheduled for September 13 at the National Communications Network (NCN).

Where is Robert Dover? He is much need to assist in the attempt to select a representative from Guyana to compete at the Miss Universe Pageant. He is a fellow guyanese who produce many winners in the area of pageantry. "GET HIM". He is somewhere in the Maryland USA area. This might be a step in the right direction.

I am a Pageant Director, and I know Robert Dover personally. He is a pageant coach and has and continue to be very successful in producing pageant winners all across the USA. He is also from your home town, ( a guyanese that is). So I think it will be in the best interest of your country to solicit his advise. Wish your country continued success.

Everytime I see a visitor in the streets or hear about them in the press I get mad. The President should be ashamed to be welcoming such a beautiful lady to such a dirty and stink city.

What he should do is take the bull by the horn and deal with this problem personally since this problem is reflecting on his leadership. Let me give him an idea:

Relieve Nogoodben of his duties for a day, utilise all the vehicles in Public Works, and hire all junkies of sound mind to dig out all the mud and silt from the drains and on the streets. Two trucks to fetch bottles and boxes, two to fetch the mud, two to pick up the sand after the streets are swept, and two fire trucks to do the washing. This will make us all proud again of our Garden City.

She is from Africa but her skin tone, lips, butt and hair are not compatible with a typical African, if you are one with those features you need to have your skin and mind bleached, a hair do and some plastic surgery then you might qualify to call her your Queen, you're a moron,..

Just asking, isn't Angola an African country with African people, dark skinned and all? Just shows how destroyed we r as a people we still believe that light skin is the best. India too, go ask the dark skinned people in Mumbai, sad and a sick all at once.

Most INAPPROPRIATE, his hand on her waist!!! Whatever happened to protocol which says some things are JUST NOT DONE??? Oh yes, he doesn't know about that. Poor girl, you can actually see her trying to stand clear of him. Did he think this was a gt teedie-bopper from some night club on sheriff or main street??? Please, sir, learn what is acceptable behaviour and what is NOT if you do not know.

LOL. I love this, this girl features are nothing like a true African girl. So your commentary is absolutely correct.

Dougla this moron will not get this.
When Arti Cameron indicated who she really is (Chinese/East Indian with African decent) some were quickly to point out the Chinese/with African decent and totally ignored her East Indian background.

Some segments of our population are hell bent in destroying this country and its people.
