An eight-year-old lad was Friday afternoon killed on the Corentyne public road by a drunken driver, the police say.

A release from police spokesman Ivelaw Whittaker on Saturday stated that Yoerindra Radbay of No.56 Village, Corentyne was struck down around 3.40 PM on the No. 56 Village Public Road.

“Investigations revealed that the driver of motor car PPP 6164 was proceeding along the roadway, allegedly at a fast rate, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck down the child who was walking along the roadway. Yoerindra Radbay was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced DOA,” Whittaker said.

He added that the driver of the car fled the scene but was arrested at his home shortly after and was found to be over the legal limit in terms of the consumption of alcohol. He is in police custody assisting with the investigations.

Things to consider
An 8 year old alone on the public road

If the driver fled the scene how did they know they have the right person no eye withness

was found to be over the legal limit of Alcohol. DID they do a breath analyzer test or blood alcohol level at his home.

We are too lenient with these cases. Follow this case and you will see that absolutely nothing but a slap on the wrist will be the punishment. If it were my child ..... I say no more.

There seems to be no let-up with lives being lost on our roads - even a former Police Commissioner is included this year.

This driver needed to be put to death, so that others can learn, don't drink and drive.
Now a child lost his life because of his nonsense.

If a driver kills someone while over the limit of alcoholic consumption, and was the primary cause of the fatal accident, he or she should be charged with murder and either be executed or put away for life, this may be the only deterrent to this type of crime.

Give me the job to manage waste in Guyana and I will sell Guyana the end product.

I will make bench out out of plastic. I will have people cleaning up the street because I will pay them for every plastic bottle return.

I will compose all waste from home and produce the beck vegetable gardens around town using school children, nobody will go hungry in Guyana. I will run the fast food business out of town.

It is predicted that in six years, Guyana will be an overweight society.

I am seeing it and it can very well be true in 2018.....

Something has to be done about this carnage on our roads as a result of persons driving under the influence of alcohol, offenders seem to think nothing of the lives or safety of others, and the Authorities need to take drastic action against these offenders, these people need to be severely punished.
