Constable Leadon Adrian Aaron

The bodies of the two Kato-based policemen were Wednesday morning discovered at Echerak- one with pellet wounds to his back and the other burnt to his legs.

Police Chief of Criminal Investigations, Deputy Commissioner Seelall Persaud told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) that Constable Marlon Letlow was shot to his back with a shotgun.Constable Leadon Adrian Aaron was found a short distance away from a burning tree stump with his legs burnt, added the Crime Chief.

Persaud said investigators were on the ground verifying information that the policemen might have robbed a number of Brazilians who retaliated by killing them. Persaud noted that Letlow had a history of being involved in irregular activities. No one has been arrested.

The Guyana Police Force subsequently issued the following statement:

During yesterday afternoon, Wednesday October 17, 2012, the bodies of Police Constables 19510 Marlon Letlow, 27 years, and 21320 Ledon Aaron, 25 years, were found at Paramakatoi, North Pakaraimas.

There were suspected gunshot wounds to the body of Constable Marlon Letlow, while the body of Constable Ledon Aaron was found a short distance away with the upper part partially burnt.

The two ranks who were stationed at the Kato Police Station had left on patrol duties on Sunday last on an ATV.

The service Carbine that had been uplifted by Constable Marlon Letlow was recovered along with eight rounds and eight spent shells.  The service .38 Revolver that had been uplifted by Constable Ledon Aaron has not been found.  The Force ATV was also recovered.

One spent 12 gauge shotgun cartridge was found at the scene.

Constable Marlon Letlow was recently reinstated into the Police Force on August 06, 2012.  He had been interdicted from duty after being charged criminally following investigations into the robbery and murder of two gold miners at Bartica on September 05, 2010.

Constable Letlow was initially charged with “accessory after the fact” which was subsequently withdrawn and a charge of “receiving stolen property” instituted.

This matter was dismissed by the court on May 15, 2012.

Glad the Brazilians stood up and defended themselves. Now, my long suffering Brazilian brothers, hold one head. You all ain't see, ain't hear, and ain't know nutten.

Deputy Commissioner Seelall Persaud shows how incompetent the police dept and himself and commissioner are if he can make such a statement:"Persaud noted that Letlow had a history of being involved in irregular activities."

Why is her still a police if this is what he does? Was the robbery of the Brazilians reported? If no, how can he speculate such a thing?

Policing has gone to the dogs in Guyana, its as though the Deputy commissioner is condoning the murder of his own ranks...sad, sickening and so bad for the average Guyanese.

From previous reports that indicated that
Letlow was charged with murder of a gold
broker but was released after it could not
be proven, He should have never be reinstated back into the GPF.

The top brass is to blame for letting these
criminals run loose to rob people under the
cover of the GPF.

I can tell you that the folks int he bush just got tired of getting robbed, and provide the criminals with bush justice.

I think this will be a warning for future
robbers under the guise of a law officer
to take note and BE ON NOTICE, if you are thinking of getting rich quickly.

These boys head hard they would not learn.

Just look at what happened to the BIG MAN; all of the wrong that he did in the force and look how he ended up?

You cannot use the uniform to abuse the common man. When you do that you not only disgrace your family but the whole police force which is there to protect and serve the people, BUT THESE BOYS ARE SERVING THEMSELVES BY ROBBING THE PEOPLE.

After saying all of that, there is nothing different in the leaders.

Same S*@t only softer.

It may not have been the best course of action taken by the victims of yet again the actions of our so called peacekeepers but I no less commend them, something had to be done to irradicate these nusicances/criminals from our society. This is just one of many cases you will hear of the injustice hard working miners have to face daily by these criminals in uniform. Rather than deport the illegal aliens that are bleeding our gold resources with illegal mining operations and smuggling and solve the crimes both in the interior and out, they rather join the criminals. Maybe they watched too much tv and so happened to hear someone say, "if you cant beat them join them," so all we have now quite possibly may be just criminals in the entire police force. Think about it, when last have they solved a crime where the person didn't hand themselves to them (domestic disputes.) It's a crying shame a mother of one of these guys went on record saying how honourable he was, shame on you, not only do you not know your child but you raised a criminal. Your argument may be we make children and not their minds, sure I'd give you that because we no longer try to make minds we mold them not just in case you missed the memo.

What a shame? the GPF again, they have advanced from taking bribes to committing robberies, well actually murder is part of their nature, who is really upholding the law in Guyana?, and imagine the Police Chief of Criminal Investigations was aware of the fact that Letlow had a history of being involved in irregular activities, so why was he still in the Force, what a shame Mr. Seelall Persaud. We really don't have a Police Force, the Police are leading the way in every area of crime.Honestly sorry that these young men met their demise, they didn't deserve it,but they looked for it.Sympathy to their Bereaved relatives.

Well, well I'm not a criminal investigator, but I have read many cases and this story smells like cover up of the killers. So sorry, no eyewitness or the victims are there to speak for themselves.

The deputy commissioner,is giving unverified, unsubstantiated information, for his police report? What kind of police force it this. Print the evidence if you have. What investigation was done to see the links between the death of the lawyer for Marlon and the previous case, before reporting stories.

Does that mean the Brazilians who retaliated has taken the law into their hands? Do they have the right to kill Guyanese on our soil without giving due process, if charged... Is this the wild, wild west days in Guyana?

A proper police investigation does not give such damaging information, until the case is truly investigated, witnesses called, deposition taken and the evidence is without a doubt. These police men were someone's son, husband, father and human beings. Is this what the deputy commissioner best, is? Where did he get his police credentials to hold such a high post?

It would have been better and more professional to say we are doing an investigation and when we are fully through, we will give our evidence and details.

Guyanese, you should get to the bottom of this story. The killer should be brought to justice, too.

My sadness for my country is overwhelming.

Dennis Scott Charbol, what investigation have you done or seen, to print such a headline news?

What type of reporting is this? He say, she say? Where is the evidence, a rush to judgement? Print the evidence or witnesses to show a blanced point of view.
Shame on you, shame on you.

Is the Hon Minister responsible for these ranks being suspects. Is he guilty of them robbing people. Mr Hughes did Mr Higgins the commander of this div. even tell the Minister of these ranks. Did the Minister prevent anyone fron reassigning these ranks. It gets back to who we are, what we have to work with and how we move forward.Mr Hughes folks like you are really guilty as these type of police know people like you can keep them in buis. I would suggest you go back to your profession and try cleaning up your act. That would be a start for a better Guyana.

VERY,VERY SAD SITUATION.

WE MUST BARE IN MIND THAT PEOPLE WHO DWELL IN KATO ARE MOSTLY GOLD MINERS. AND GOLD MINING IS HARD ,DIRTY WORK. SO NO MINER WILL EVER TAKE BEING ROBBED BY ANYBODY LIGHTLY.

THOSE TWO OFFICERS CLEARLY RUBBED SOME MINER THE WRONG WAY SO THE MINER DECIDED TO OUT THEIR LIGHTS.

ALL THINGS MUST COME TO AN END: BY FARE MEANS OF BY FOUL MEANS.
HE 'ANGEL OF DEATH' ROHEE REMAIN IN-CHARGE OF THE MINSTRARY OF HOME AFFAIRS THERE WILL BE NO END TO THIS NONSENSE. CHANGE WILL ONLY COME WITH HIS EXIT. A ZEBRA CANNOT CHANGE HIS STRIPPES.THE POLICE FORCE MUST BE REFORMED. THE POLICE DO NOT RESPECT THE PEOPLE, AND THE PEOPLE ARE RAPIDLY LOOSING RESPECT FOR THE POLICE. THIS SITUATION MUST BE REVERSED BUT ROHEE REFUSE TO DO IT. HE IS CLEARLY BECOME USELESS.

In all honesty, the face of petty crime is always black in Guyana. I am an Afro Guyanese and it is shameful to see every time there is a thief to be caught it is a black youth. I know money laundering is crime, I know gun running is a crime but it is a silent one, u do not see the players, every time u see a petty thief he is African in Guyana. There must be some thing we r not looking at, why r so many African young men heading down dead end roads?

It is hard to speak the truth in Guyana about ur own, u r called a traitor. There is need for the leaders of the black people in Gt to come up with some strategy to tell African people that they r no longer slaves.

You live by the sword, you die by the sword. They were there to serve and protect but they were in fact involved in criminal acts. Police corruptions at its best. Before enlisting recruits, an intense background checks ought to be done on all to save the day for those officers who uphold the law to serve and protect. My heart goes out to the parents.

So, is this a closed case? Why aren't the Brazilians arrested and charged for murder? Is there a different law for the jungle or special protection for this group of Brazilians, many of whom are fronting for a corrupt network in Geology and Mines and other sectors?
Something is radically wrong with Guyana's immigration and work-permit policy and it needs fixing. Occupancy and ownership of land has no stringent conditions as in other Caribbean countries. Why are so many, including the Chinese, attracted to "POOR" Guyana?
