The Government Information said the Guyana government would be only refunding passengers who purchased their tickets in Guyana. The US $200,000 bond deposit which was lodged by the airline to enter the Guyana market will be used for the refunds. Guyanese authorities had set a January 14th deadline for passengers, who had purchased EzJet tickets locally, to apply for refunds now that the airline has been declared dead. EZjet Airline’s licences have been suspended in the US and Guyana following financial difficulties encountered with its founder and CEO Sonny Ramdeo who is now in custody in the United States. He has been accused of embezzling as much as US$20 million from as early as 2005 from Promise Healthcare Inc. and Success Healthcare Group, where he worked as the payroll supervisor. As the payroll supervisor for both companies, Ramdeo managed the payroll for more than 3,500 employees in hospitals nationwide. |
