A 13-year old student of Patentia Secondary School was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) with a scissors stuck in his head, authorities said.

Police sources said a 15-year old boy, who attends the same school, was detained by police. Statements were taken and the lad was expected to be released into the custody of his parents later Wednesday.

Polices sources said the two had an altercation and one of them pelted the scissors at his schoolmate and the instrument stuck in his head.

The GPHC said “at present he is undergoing surgery to have the Scissors removed. Doctors will continue to monitor his condition.”

The health care institution said the boy was taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit at 2:30 PM with “a stab wound to the head.”

This is definetely a spirit of murder that is tormenting Guyana, what is responsible for that? an un-godly President and probably most of the Govt. you give way to the devil and he'll walk all over you, he comes to kill, steal and destroy, that's what's happening in Guyana today, we need God-fearing and God-believing Leaders, then this will stop.

Patentia Secondary School on the West Bank of Demerara is a place when anything can happen at anytime. Many students who attend that institution can be OPENLY seen smoking the prohibited 'WEED' They have no regard for the teachers. A few years ago, a student was shot by the police. I do hope that the injured student recovers.

Why does every situation have to turn into a political one with attacks on the Governement?

Seems more like ungodly people in the country...if people spent more time with their kids instead of the bars and discos and maybe the church becomes more proactive in teh communities then our society wont deteriorate. Stop wasting time fighting with the government and more time on improving yor lifestyles.

More social services are needed to counsel individuals who are unable to resolve disputes without the use of violence. We need to go beyond the Probation and Welfare Services Department and involve trained psychologists and social workers to assist people with dispute resolution in the homes and community. Consider family planning in the homestead, Education Counselors in schools and Probationary Services for juvenile and adult offenders. Also introduce grants to faith based organizations to provide non religious social services to their geographic communities.

How the youth get so?

Is this the question you are asking me?

Take a close look at the adults, look at how they behave.

Children learn what they learn!!

I had this genius idea for the School system.

You know those metal detectors you walk tru... Well install one of that at every school. Children should not be taking metal to class.

Across the metal detector are lasers that act as an anti pass. If anyone passes with out permission, an alarm goes off.

How are the lasers deactivated? Using a biometric lock system. Students scan in using their fingerprints.

That info will also be used to generate truancy reports. It's totally full proof. As for the nitty gritty ... Well those are ironed out.

Thank you so much @ Chris, you can not blame the government for everything. If there was an earthquake and it destroy everything in Guyana somehow that will be the Govt fault. Clearly parenting might be the issue no respect for others also. That child needs to beat. I am not affiliated with any government but this is just tiring to see that everytime it has to deal with the GOVT. People need to get up and make demands raise your kids to want better do better geesh. Its funny how this government is so bad, you guys complain about every political party. I remember when Burnam was in office oh all the Guyanese were running out of the country saying he was a dictator. Im just saying. Raise your kids right teach them manners and respect for others and themself and if that doesnt work BEAT their butt. ha!

Noone wants to see that. I read alot of papers and I dont know another paper that does that. Out of respect for that person, its called Privacy clearly something that is not given in Guyana. People lying in the hospital bed shot up stabbed raped whatever, all of that doesnt need to be published on the website. SMH. How about a nice picture when the child has recovered.

the more the youths listen to these voilent songs that plays everywhere the more they get voilent. if you move arround the villages an town early in the morning its some STUPID song playing not any song about GOD.i saw a lot of parents that take their children to school with vehicle an when they open the door the music affect me outside and the windows are all up. some [censored] call muvado or popcan(popcorn) and many others. people need to stop with these garbage an start to follow their religion more. some youths drop out of school an rides cart selling CDs. have a cart with a Cross or Om and playing something like pum pum tun up. what de hell these youth feeding their ears. i see the next generation will suffer MORE.

With no disrespect to the other comments. This has got to be the most sensible and thought provoking comment. Forget about government. Guyana as a nation is going down a fast track of moral degradation and self-destruction. Clearly the persons writing in these columns are expressing emotions of disgust. No one President can solve this problem once it has permeated all of our communities. Ask yourself...what are you doing about it?
