Minister Robeson Benn in his capacity as acting Foreign Affairs Minister cutting the ceremonial ribbon to commission the new CCTV channel. He is assisted by China’s Ambassador to Guyana, Zhang Limin and Chairman of the board of the National Communications Network, Dr. Prem Misir.
Two broadcasting experts have rejected government’s explanation of the process it used to award a frequency to China Central Television, saying the administration has flouted the laws governing the broadcast industry. Reiterating that the electromagnetic spectrum is a limited resource, veteran broadcaster Enrico Woolford said the manner in which Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon explained that the frequencies have been assigned for CCTV’s 24-hour relay smacked of opacity. “Even if twelve countries have had a deal with Luncheon’s disclosure that he merely picked up the phone and instructed the NFMU to assign the frequencies after “That in itself is a dangerous precedent, if indeed it happened, that Dr. Luncheon is saying because what is he also saying is that it could also happen in the reverse- the Guyana government could instruct that the frequency not be issued and that tells you that there is little transparency, there is very little accountability and there is very little reciprocity that someone could have if the government instructs in either way,” Woolford told DemWaves Online News (www.demwaves.com). He insisted that the Guyana-China agreement for CCTV should have been done within the confines of The broadcaster reiterated that government should have applied for a frequency. Back in 2004 the governing law would have been the Postal and Telegraph Act which has been since superseded by the Guyana National Broadcasting Act which provides for an authority to consider applications. He said the electromagnetic spectrum is the last economic frontier that appears insignificant but is a highly valuable and limited resource. Communications Consultant, Christopher ‘Kit’ Nascimento, who has been integrally involved in drafting “It appears that the government believes that it has the executive authority to break the laws passed by the National Assembly to which the President has assented,” Nascimento told DemWaves. ‘Absolutely” the government should have passed the application through the Guyana National Broadcasting Authority because “the law of the land is supreme.” Chairman of the Authority, Bibi Shadick has said that the authority had no record of CCTV. |

The TV station is to enlighten them in Chines how to vote
Dealing with an Opposition that desecrated our constitution and Parliament the govt is right to carry on the peoples business the way they are doing it, thats the way to deal with bullies.
In the 70s, these people came to GT and JA as students to observe the bauxite industry. Off-loaded junk of a textile mill(Sanata), and built schools in JA.(wow).
By 1980, China became a major producer of calcined bauxite. HOW? - WHERE DID THEY GET THE TECHNO???????????????????
Our apathetic response to FAILED LEADERSHIP is SAD.
This is tragic the way everyone treats GT massive. This TV deal is a joke - exposing gross incompetence...and the hotel deal is an
affront to all Guyanese, regardless of race. Boycott all aspects of the hotel and Chinese anything(they don't hire or do business with others anyway - %#@*& their food - we have metem, cook-up, curry, pepperpot, roti, puri, etc).
Forget about the 'isms',(we tried SOCIALISM - European import - FAILED)we need DEVELOPMENT for ALL Gt massive NOW. We need Half book sense, half common sense(business oriented), another 'Rodney' type leader, and we need an alternative model - screw the Govt.
Ants don't have a leader(sounds familiar) - but knows what to do.
No wonder why he was a great admirer of Burnham....but Burnham had brains and punished corruption !!
teh APNU and THE AFC take away the funds from teh Budget so taht the only educted channel we had was teh channel 3 now they fighting to gave lindeners TV licence, now what are we efending, the chinese would bring a difference in this country and bring changes to the air wave we now have to work for such change, the american have TV station in the asia, they have stud, patroit miossil pointing around the strategic interest, now this what we need to talked about not a TV station taht coming to further develope this country and craet change in teh environment inthe life of all guyanese,
lets taled abot the grater good this government have brought top this country,
In the agriculture sector, we seen the MMA, the consevancy, the agri development in the Essequibo, the ameridian area, the titling of lands, the changes in the bauxite industries, the sugar industries, thechanges in the mining industries, the infracture, the improvement in the education sector, the water sector, now we in our home water to the shower, no walking with water o the head o stand pipe, look at the building in the capital and around the housing sector when have we ever see a mud wall house, better commnuication net work did the APNU nad the afc did all this let talk more about this grate nation that the PPPC ah stransformed to greater height and development and ggrowth ...
How did the Opposition desecrate the constitution?. Do you have an idea of what you are saying or are you parroting a party line. Any which way you are clueless and have neither the capacity or sagacity to enter into such a discourse. I suggest you shut off the flow of refuse you are spewing. You are entitled to an opinion ,but please at a minimum let it be informed and intelligent..
What the hell is this???? Is this what the Guyana Education System is producing?? I've read some disjointed comments and this one really is winner of the BEST IN IGNORANCE award!!!
Personally I have no problem with the fact that Guyana now has a Chinese TV station, what I detest is the underhanded way in which the dictatorship of the PPP used to circumvent the laws of the land to grant the licence to Chinese.
A fact.....there is nothing that anyone, or any country can do at this time, that will prevent China from investing in countries around the world....in courage them to help lift Guyana out of the doldrums, but insist that thy adhere to local laws ans customs.
Get rid of the stupid PPP and replace them with men/women of integrity who would be able to champion the Guyanese cause without the need to stuff their own pockets as well, people who will insist that anyone wishing to invest in Guyana comes armed with a working knowledge of the English language and is willing to have Guyanese workers constitute at least 50 percent of their workforce.
But who is listening...the PPP feeding frenzy will continue until Guyanese develop some balls.
The Chinese are a dynamic force in the USA when it come to hark work, Technoligy, and development they even have their own China Town in every city. Why are you stooges of the AFC and APNU want to pull the Guyana development down. Beside that Chinese slaved for Guyana too.
As far as I am concerned, we should disregard the government's constitutional right to rule each time the government disregards our constitutional rights.
It not the PPP on the street Protesting violently, burning down buildings, Robbing people and be professional Holligans. Who is lawless now.
Bollox. The legislature is the supreme authority in any democracy. It speaks for the people. The President cannot just issue executive orders.
That is why you guys can never criticize the PNC. Because you have shown that you have no ethics, no honesty, but are purely and irrevocably wedded to ethnic and political partisanship.
Its a TV station it will pay for it self and run better than some TV station in GT. It not for you its for the Chinese they salved in Guyana before you idiot...Guyanese got nothing to do all day, but to talk dog fart.
@FEDUP/GT--They are Guyanese why they must not vote. Why they should not have a TV station with their language and roots. They don't want to watch the lawlessness on the Guyanese music channel.
Its either you on crack or a junkie to leave a comment like the above.
We were stabbed in the back by these people before, want more proof of their agenda - they are a 'DYNASTIC EMPIRE'...they go around our blue marble earth and 'COPY'...
In Mexico, they studied earthen products made by the locals - copied, then flooded the Mexican market with cheaper, inferior products - awake FOOLS.
What is happening in Africa and Indian with fabric - do some research.
After 43 yrs of independence - we still have to depend on others to help us develop?????(did we waste time in certain schools - getting papers to work for them?)...we are a UNIQUE CULTURE, we need a unique economic model - not all the 'isms' developed for millions of peons.
SOCIALISM IS A FAILURE - CAPITALISM has some credence, and good virtues, but not the current economic model - INDEBTED TO INFINITY. Once the $US was pegged to gold, then oil, but if Russia, China, Iran, Venezuela etc, peg their currencies to a 'basket' of currencies, pop goes the US dollar.
Stop dwelling on the past - it is GONE, DONE, WE CAN'T CHANGE A THING! MOVE ON. What economic lessons can we learn form: ARGENTINA, BRAZIL AND CHILE, right here in S.Am., their models are not perfect, but they are UNIQUE, and their folks are not scattered all over the blue marble.
A little perspective - the combined kilometers of; St. Barts, St, Eustatius and Saba are 56.1 km - tiny dots in the caribbean...we are almost 1,500 times larger than these 3, yet our standard of living is incomparable, WHY?
Concerning ‘AMERINDIANS’...is their adequate, reliable INGRESS or EGRESS to the interior, what are the main arteries - can they bring goods and services to market in the single old city daily????...u seem lost?
DO NOT SUPPORT ANYONE BLINDLY - Dr. Rodney was black - what happened to him?
I LOVE MY COUNTRY LIKE U, I’M A BUSINESSMAN - I TRAVEL - I SEE, I OBSERVE - WE ARE NOT READY ...go revolt FOR THE RIGHT REASONS YOUNGREVOLT2012...GOD BLESS U.
@BILRAY - It's a free-kin TV station that will broadcast Chinese programe for Guyanese of Chinese decent not a drug deal. The Chinese should contact Human Rights and embarrassed all AFC and APNU to the world for descrimination.
They own a restaurant and work what u got nothing that's y u jelious you low life that didn't achieved nothing in GT
It's Jamacia the largest producers of calcined boxite go tell you lies to Apoo supporters. China got Techno from Guyana! Are u a drunk get real.
Does you brain listen to what comes out of your mouth? God help me.
Hehe thuth hurts.
You are a [censored], as your name suggests - we are the only donkey in S. Am. and the Caribbean these people are riding to the bank.
HOW MANY GUYANESE DO THEY HIRE IN ANY OF THEIR STORES OR RESTAURANTS? yet we buy their goods and food daily - Isn’t that discrimination, yet we take it and don’t complain?
Why did Mexico stop importing most Asian goods?
Fighting for rights in your own country is discrimination, since when?
NO OTHER COUNTRY ON THE PLANET WILL ALLOW WHAT IS TAKING PLACE WITHOUT DUE PROCESS OR PUBLIC IMPUT!
YOU ARE RIGHT, I’M A ‘JUNKIE OF RAGE’ BECAUSE I HAVE EXTREME HATRED FOR THE NINCOMPOOPS RUNNING AND SELLING OUT THE COUNTRY.
GO SELF IMPLODE YOU STPID, BLIND, IGNORANT 'JACK’ASS.
I would presume Cumberland is where you are from, but then many intelligent people come form that area. You not being one of them anyhow. How are these Chinese who came from China 10-15 years ago or less Guyanese. Where are their roots in Guyana?. Where are the records to show linkage to those who came 150yrs ago and those who came a few years ago? Are you this stupid always or this is an aberration.
I can see one thing also, you did not go..I went proudly. Chinese came to Guyana as slaves?. that does not even deserve and answer. Meaningful discourse is good for any society, but your brand of ignorance is in no way meaningful. You are misinformed and obviously biased..
First off the word is descent not decent..Secondly please identify the numbers of Guyanese of Chinese descent. Secondly are they even interested after 150yrs or more of absence. Look grab y a pen and paper and get your grammar and history right then try again..Your ignorance crawls my skin like when the teacher would draw the chalk against the blackboard and make that screeching sound.
before u spew bile - PLEASE do some research.
Go to the ‘UN STATISTICS DIVISION’, look up the ‘GDP’ of Gt, Ja and China, yrs 1970-80...bauxite % relative to growth/decline, as part of GDP.
Are u stupid or very, very stupid? Are u related to any one in the present administration - CHINA IS THE LARGEST PRODUCER OF CALCINED BAUXITE ON THE ENTIRE BLUE MARBLE - GO CHECK BEFORE YOU RESPOND TO ANY SANE, DEMOCRATIC DISCUSSION ON THIS SITE.
JAMAICA IS NOWHERE CLOSE TO CHINA, GUYANA OR BRAZIL IN BAUXITE PRODUCTION.
Only Guyana and China produce ‘REFRACTORY GRADE BAUXITE’,
do u see where I’m going - dunce(THINK).
