APNU supporters took their protest outside GECOM last week.

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has decided to hand over Statements of Poll to the parties which contested the November 28 polls following the demand from opposition coalition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) for an all party verification of the documents.

APNU has claimed that there were numerous discrepancies in the tallying of the votes and has  pressed its demand with marches in the city which culminated in several persons being injured Tuesday when the police opened fire with rubber pellets on protesters.

Contacted by Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) Tuesday, GECOM chairman Dr. Steve Surujbally said they would be making the Statements available Wednesday morning. Officials of the elections management body were Tuesday given the green-light to put the collection together.

"I'm handing it over to them, the Statements of Poll and the summary of the box-by-box-statements and let's see if that satisfies them. If not they can meet with me Wednesday," he saiid in a brief statement.

The chairman also clarified that the documents will be given to all contesting parties who will be free to meet with him if they have any questions.

The AFC has already signalled that it is prepared to make its Statements of Poll availbale for such a verification while there has been no word on the matter from the ruling PPP/C.

The APNU had been pressing its case since the announcement of the final results Thursday and mounted action that saw marches through the city to GECOM Kingston office and vigils at the homes of Dr. Surujbally and Chief Election Officer Gocool Boodoo.

So is everyone going to verify these in their own'bedroom' or will they do it publicly under camera so as to bring confidence to the process and everyone.

Lets have one big open room witht he media to doa verification. At least every SOP can be challenges with some merit and correlation to another party.

I have consistently made this observation to congress place , that the elections are generally smooth and free of problems but as soon as it gets to Gecom the problems this has been the case with at least four of the last elections. It seems as if no one can get it right if this is not rigging then I am Saint Peter. Mind you these are the same people that kept accusing the PNC of rigging elections to stay in power those years ago i wonder who is illegal now?

1) When was the use of rubber pilet passed?
2)Was that force necessary where is Demoracy in our state?

Now that the owner of the site has re-democratize this website, we can now freely discuss all the issues that affect us in Guyana. I hope it stays open forever.

I am pleased that the STATEMENT OF POLL will finally be released to us. This is first step - in a series of actions that has to take place.

If this was done before - we would not have gone into the streets to force them to bring the forward the results.

Imagine - after 9 days we are getting official results which should have been given out the evening after the close of poll.

Are we not to suspect that there is some form of fraud and corruption? We - the APNU - hope that the results satisfy our questions.

There seems to be some obvious discrepancies many probably due to human error - others probaby deliberate, How material are these discrepanies is yet to be determined. To some extent true or not GECOM contributed to perception of fraud material enough to affect the outcome. Releasing the SOP's is a step in the right direction.

It is great indeed that the GECOM will comply with the opposition requests for the statements of poll that could allow an all party verification of the results. Guyanese came out in the largest numbers seen in over 2 decades to vote. They deserve that their curiosities and enquiries be satisfied. Clearly, the process for counting these votes were so significantly delayed, without obvious reasons, it provided sufficient reason to generate concerns of the international observer mission. And,the appearance of vote/ballot tampering is not an unfair conjecture given the history of such occurrences in other Guyanese elections.
My Prayer is ( and I ask others to join in prayer) this : that this verification step will quell any tensions that have arisen as a result of the delayed vote counts and the challenges to the election results; and, that it can allow the process of development of the new government to proceed with relative calm and speed; if there are questionable discrepancies after an all- party tally that the matter will be sent to the appropriate courts of Guyana, Caricom and international to present the case for legal consideration.

Even here in the USA, where large numbers of many Guyanese reside, there have been allegations of vote tampering during 2 recent consecutive presidential elections ( in some places,)done by the officials representing the party in power. In one case the courts determined the the presidential winner ( a historic precedent in the USA). Because of the time lapse that allows preparation for the transition between the old and new administrations the business of the country was not affected, significantly, by the challenges of election fraud etc. However Guyana has so such time gap to depend on. The business health of the country need to be protected / not be compromised. A government in place and able to function is essential.

So, even if fraud/vote tampering by the PPP/C is confirmed by the all-party tally, the election results still makes a even more fundamental statement about the huge and unmistakable mood change in Guyana, with respect to the magnitude of loss of confidence in the incumbent party/government administration. This, compounded scenario, would offer a major advantage to the opposition parties to unify, to make efforts to heal across the the race divide; to force the changes in government behaviors that the people voted for -i.e an end to the rampant and bold corrupt/criminal government practices; and an end to the selective treatment/neglect of ethnic groups and their communities, which became very obvious.

I commend my Guyanese brothers/sisters/their children, all who help to make this statement so loud and so clear on Nov. 28, 2011 in Guyana by their vote. It is now up to the leaders of all parties , and particularly the opposition, to begin taking steps necessary to respond to this public statement, with the action necessary to move forward with haste in the direction to address the important needs of the populace of Guyana, especially those who have been hurting so bad for so long.

This is the first opportunity Guyana has received ( in my 'baby boomer' lifetime)forcin g all the political parties to move with unison of vision and purpose if their collective goal to make right in Guyana creating and bright future for all( not some)of our children.

Ngozi Moses.

Why did it take them so long to give the resut to the people and to see those black police men shooting black brothers with rubber bullets that is sad, i wonder how long we'll have to wait to see them using live bullets after jack spent a lot of guyanese people money buying guns bullets. It is my believe that the Afro guyanese people must rise up for their rights, I was there in July and I was sadden to see the way how black people were treated in guyana.Guyana has now become an aparthied state where one group of people dominates another and where racism is a daily practice. Protests as we know it escalate with people getting beaten up and robbed, stores being looted and burned down. No one can deny these facts, the protests always start peaceful and end rowdy even to the point of invading the Office of the President. The leaders of these protests can't maintain a peaceful protest. Citizens and property owners have a right to go about their business without fear of unruly protesters. Thats why as soon as word gets around that a protest is in progress, the busy town becomes a ghost town. Protest if you must, but take cognisance of the rights of other citizens and their property and do it within the confines of the law. The laws are there to maintain order and protect the rights of citizens. Protests are done to have wrongs corrected but many wrongs are done during this exercise.

So parliament would be discussing one bill and they would be thinking how to keep the poor Guyanese down. Let the verification process proceed. The Opposition have their Statements so it is just to verify that the numbers add up and GECOM's statement do not exceed the voters that were actually registered.

The private sector needs to stop being silent and speak out vehemently against the injustices. Look at Trinidad and Jamaica and take a page of how public business in conducted. You are corrupt you are fired not promoted.

What does APNU & AFC hope to achieve from those statements. The PPP had enough time to Burnham those records.

[quote name="Dueces"]They will protest again still when they are not satisfied with the statement of polls,so what will be the next move?
They have a big say in parliament, isn't that what they want, the ruling party can't do anything without their imput, isn't that a fair thing,if the ruling party had cheated, won't they have cheated so they can win,i would.

The president has VETO powers; he does not have to get opposition agreement.
Ask President to confirm his VETO POWERS.

look at the way the international people are falling over themselves to say fair. they did that in america to keep gore out of the white house to there own regret and disgrace. we must seek to be honest at all times afterall we have a nation to develop. burnham did it and we did not prosper and now the ppp doing it we will not prosper.

as usual the cabal or few get together and get rich at the expense of the few like you and i. we at the bottom fighting in our poverty stricken state. they over the years enjoy the fat of the land. burnham shuhabadeen ramphal teeka; hamme green reid now jagan lunchman hinds, labumba edghill jagdeo. this is not race. race has little to do with it. we must ensure that we find a righteous government. when the righteous rule the people rejoice when the wicked rule the people groan,
