The Joint Opposition Political Parties could launch their coalition platform for this year’s general election by month end, according to information from PNCR’s presidential candidate Brigadier (ret.) David Granger. Speaking to demwaves.com on Thursday, Granger said they are currently working on selecting their leadership team but the work is well advanced and a launch could happen in another fortnight. “We’re working now on a joint Statement of Principles and a joint manifesto but the manifesto will not be ready for the time. We are now in the process of selecting our leadership team. This is not the list of candidates; this is the people who are probably going to end up holding high positions in a government of national unity,” Granger said. He added that they expect that information would be made public by the end of next week. While it is expected that Granger would be the presidential candidate the parties had earlier stated that the candidate would be one arrived at by consensus. So far, there have been no signs to contradict that belief. “The indications are that we have achieved consensus on the presidential candidate. The PNCR is happy with the consensus,” Granger said when asked about that. The brigadier had previously sought clarity on what grounds he would have been expected to step aside from the candidacy. At the time Granger had said that the party members who elected him did not elect a prime ministerial candidate so they too needed that question answered after going through a six-month process to identify a presidential candidate. Meanwhile, he noted that the constitution does not call for a prime ministerial candidate to be identified and said he was unaware that anyone would be identified soon.
