Election Commissioners say 'No' to extending Claims and Objections PDF  | Print |

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has unanimously voted not to extend the period to sanitize the preliminary voters list.

The Claims and Objections period began on May 9. The claims period will end on June 9 and the period for objections will conclude on June 12.

The Peoples National Congress Reform (PNCR) is the latest political party to have rushed relief-supplies to flood-affected Lethem.

PNCR presidential candidate, David Granger, accompanied by party youth-arm chairman, Christopher Jones, were Wednesday morning distributing toiletries, bottled water and other items to persons who are housed in shelters.

A Nation of Islam member, who is pushing for the governing Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) to win Region 10, is tight-lipped on whether he thought a senior member of his organisation was unfairly locked up.

Dennis ‘Jafar’ Muhammad, a Linden-based businessman, is spearheading a civic committee whose aim is to mobilize support for the incumbent party.

The fledgling Guyana Peoples Partnership (GPP) on Monday identified the need for political unity within the Peoples National Congress Reform (PNCR) before inking a deal with other political parties but the main opposition party has already dismissed suggestions of dissent.

“We believe that the main opposition party PNC/R need to show a Unified Front prior to any final discussions on a broader coalition,” GPP leader, Peter Ramsaroop told demwaves.com. He noted that key players in the Murray Group like Kads Khan, Dr. Richard Vanwest Charles and others have not lent support to PNCR presidential candidate, David Granger.
