A visually impaired woman was burnt to death Wednesday night inside the house she was occupying at Stanleytown, New Amsterdam.

Dead is 52-year old Hazel Johnson. Her charred remains were found near a door on the bottom flat.

The fire occurred at 31 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam. The house was owned by Patrick Benon, who had decades ago headed a secretarial school.

The woman lived there for two years.

The woman is survived by two sons Clairmont, who is in the United States, and Chris who lives in Georgetown.

Residents told demwaves.com that the area was in blackout. The fire started in a front room of the two-flat building where the woman had occupied.

Another occupant, whose only name is Jean, returned home from church and found the house gutted and all her belongings destroyed.
